Minimoon in St Louis

Hi everyone! I'm actually a Kansas City bride, but due to just starting a new job I won't have any vacation time by the time our wedding rolls around so we're going to wait a few months to take our honeymoon. Instead, we're trying to find someplace closer to take a 3 or 4 day minimoon. Right now we're thinking either Chicago or St. Louis. So I figured I'd go straight to the source! What are your recommendations for great hotels/B&Bs, restaurants, and things to do in St. Louis in October? We're adventurous eaters and normally our favorite thing to do on vacation is eat.  Since this is not really our honeymoon we're going to want to keep the budget as low as possible (Im thinking $1000 for the whole trip, or less).

I would skip both big cities and go to Hermann, MO. Octoberfest is going on and there are lots of wineries with great bands. Stay in the cabins at a place called Hermann Hill. They over look the Missouri River, hot tubs on the deck, fireplaces, big huge jacuzzi tub with fireplace next to that also. It's an extremely romantic place. It's pricey but it is SOOOO worth it. Good luck! http://www.hermannhill.com/ PS... Book ASAP because they sell out quickly.. especially during Octoberfest.

I'd also suggest Augusta- there are tons of wineries and cute B&Bs there too.

If you do go to St. Louis, the Moonrise Hotel on Delmar is pretty nice.  Blueberry Hill down the street has great burgers - not fancy, but a fun, casual vibe.
