Newly Engaged

I am newly engaged and planning a wedding for july 2011.  I think I want to get the place booked soon.  Is it too early?  Any suggestions for places to visit in hudson valley for a wedding of about 200 that is affordable and nice...Thanks!

Hi Jamie! I'm Jaimie as well! Congrats on your engagement!! It's def. not too early. I got engaged in 2007 and booked my venue a year later in Aug. 2008 for my 2010 wedding. What I found was great about booking early was getting that years pricing. I just looked at your profile and saw you're from Newburgh, did you want to stay closer to up there or would you be willing to come further into Westchester?Just off the top of my head, near you is Villa Borghese which I went to a wedding there and it was really nice. Also, I wanna reccomend my venue, Villa Barone in Mahopac, absolutely gorgeous! Good luck and I'm excited to have you join our board!

Hi! If you're looking the Newburgh area, I recommend Anthony's Pier 9 (Newburgh). I've never been to a wedding there, but it's always highly recommended and very affordable.  The same family owns two places in Poughkeepsie, as well, which are also highly recommended.  The Poughkeepsie Grand has similar packages to AP9, I think.  The Grandview was our reception venue and was absolutely wonderful, but the prices are a little bit higher than the other two.  Good luck with your planning!Oh, and P.S., it's NEVER too early.  The earlier you book things, the more likely you are to get the place and the vendors you want. Plus, for example, if you book the Grandview today, you'll book at 2009 prices, while others who book next year *could* pay higher prices.

hi Jamie! Welcome to the knot. I got engaged in October 2007 and booked my venue right away for September 2009. We originally wanted an October date that was already booked almost 2 years in advance!! In the hudson valley vendors go very quickly so book as much as you can/want to as early as possible. As far as places go, give us an idea of location and maybe the kind of place you picture your wedding in i.e. hotel, reception hall, old manor, castle, and we'll come up with some names:)

Thank you all for your replies.  I have a couple places in mind.  I love Catlin Gardens.  I went to a wedding there a few years ago and it has everything I want.  However it might be to pricey.  I need a place where the ceremony can be held too.  I like Anthony's Pier 9 but it is very close to my house and think I might want something different.  So far I want to look at Villa Borghese, Villa Barone, Grandview, and Mt. Fugi.  I am probably going to try and see those places as soon as possible.  Thanks for your help and I will probably be asking more questions soon!

Hey Jamie, i'm late to post, but i wanted to say welcome and congrats!! It is never to early to book. My FI and I booked the Villa Borghese in August 2008 for our May 2010 wedding.  Things in the HV book up quickly, so start early for the best vendors and best prices, you'll be glad you did.  The places you have on your list to look at are all great.  We ultimately went with Villa Borghese because I felt like they gave me the best price within my budget and gave alot in the packages and also its really pretty, one of the few places my FI actually liked. :) good luck and enjoy!!
