DIY?

This has probably been posted at some point previously, so I apologize if it has...

I'm trying to think of some good (cute) DIY projects for the wedding to save on costs...
I have some ideas in my head for table numbers, but I know there are loads of things that can be DIY (centerpieces, silk flower bouquets, etc)...

Those that are working on various DIY projects for the wedding, what are you doing?

Re: DIY?

  • Making my own centerpieces. I went to a dollar store and bought wine glasses and the glass plates, and bought bulk sand. The candle came from JoAnn Fabrics. They were on sale and I used a 40% off coupon. These cost about $3-$4 a piece.  I also did other centerpieces that cost a little more. The glass container came from Michaels, alone with the floating candle flower and the gel beads. Those cost about $6-8 a piece.

  • I just made my table numbers yesterday (made a post with a pic of them a few threads down). I've already made a place card board and plan to make my card box, memorial candles, centerpieces, and BM gifts.

  • We're diy'ing our invites.  We got really cute blank invites, envelopes, and response cards (with envelopes!) at Michaels.  The total's going to come to $40 for 100 once we get the other set of 50 with a 40% off coupon.  Then we're using black ink so the cartridges won't be super expensive either.

We're diy'ing half of our centerpieces.  Each table will have 2 wine bottles, and a mason jar with flowers/green plants in it.  We're finding the mason jars at thrift stores and will put burlap and a purple ribbon around them.  The wine bottles are coming from family and friends and we're going to get the labels off, paint them with black chalkboard paint, and write song lyrics on 1 of the ones on each table.  The songs will be ones that mean something to us as a couple.  The other bottle will have something else that's undecided as of yet written on it.

We're also making our own banners to decorate the walls of the barn where the reception will be.  But that's about all I can think of right now that we're doing.

STDs, Invites, Menus, Programs, Centerpieces, Table Numbers.

I'm using Microsoft Publisher and Word to make the paper items. I want to make them cuz I have this custom monogram tht I want to use on them. I'm buying business card size magnets to put on the back of the STDs so they can be stuck on the fridge. My centerpieces I got 36cylinder vases, red floating candles, submersible LED lights, red votive candle holders, votive candles, red glass beads, 2000 silk rose petals and little rectangle vases for flowers. I got all that from Amazon. They have EVERYTHING, and for cheap. So my centerpieces are going to kinda look like this

With the flowers and the lights, except mine will have the beads at the bottom so the lights will turn the water the red color of the beads. And I will have votive candles and rose petals around it.

  • The DIYs for our wedding:

    - STDs, Invites, Thank Yous, RSVPs, Table Numbers, Outdoor signage, etc.: my FI is a former designer, so I'm providing him examples of what I like, and he's putting it all together -- then we'll have it printed @ Vistaprint with a coupon. He's also designing our wedding website from scratch.

    - Ceremony decor: I'm making pomanders out of different material (tissue paper, silk flower petals, cupcake liners) to decorate the arbor and aisle for the ceremony, as well as using fabric for the aisle runner, which I'll add the petals (which are going to be glued, as they are silk and not real). My MOH is making our ring bearer's pillow and likely helping me with the pomander items.

    - Reception decor: We're using the same pattern as the aisle runner to fashion fabric to go over the plan white table linens that come with our venue.

  • Here's what I've done so far (as shown with the crappy camera on my computer):
    Table numbers:

Seating chart (minus the actual printing of the names):

Menu (minus the printing of the actual menu):

    Bathroom baskets:

And here are my lamps.  Half the centerpieces will be these tall lamps.  Bought them cheap and will have to tape up the wire and attach a battery operated light to the inside of the shade.  The base of the lamp will be covered in hydrangea:

Other DIY projects to be done:
Photo collages for the cake table
    FInish the above projects

  • Fake Flowers - Michael's should be having a 50% on all floral at the end of December/early January. FSIL is willing to make some bouqets for the three of us. She did her wedding flowers and other FSIL's wedding flowers.

Centerpieces - We are borrowing FSIL's centerpieces from last year, but I'm trying to find some DIY project to change them up a little.

Cake Stand - Inspired by something we saw on our baker's website. Short, square vases w/ some small/clear filler w/ some flowers inside.

Card Box - Either using FSIL's card box or FI's cousin's card box. If we use the cousin's card box, we will try and find something to make it, er, look better.
