I am getting married on May 1, 2010 (eek!) and live in NYC but relocating to Bham to be with my honey. I loooove cake and really want ours to be amazing. i usually dont like wedding cake (too dry) and dont know where to start. i will only be there for this weekend and want to do some tasting or meet with some bakers. Help!?

I hate cake. In fact when I was little, my mother used to make things like brownies, pasta, & pizza for my birthdays instead of cake. While I was at the Southern Bridal Show I tasted cake from, of all places, Publix. MY GOD! That's what I was missing out on all these years. Butter Cream and vanilla is all it was and it was yummy. Just an FYI for ya.Also, in my experience, Savages has always disappointed those around me. They said it was dry and tasted old.

You have to try Olexa's in Mountain Brook. Diane Olexa does AMAZING cakes! She has a cafe that's open for lunch and you can order a slice of cake to try anytime. I'm usually not a cake lover, but her cakes are so moist and delicious. They have that sweet/salty combo.
