  I say do whatever you want, it's your wedding!  My husband and I didn't want to see each other before the wedding, so before the ceremony we did all the pics we could that didn't have my husband and I both in them--all the girls, all the guys, getting ready pics, etc. After the ceremony we did the ones with everyone together--the whole WP, all of our family, etc.--and ones with just my H and I.  Pictures after the ceremony only took us about 30 minutes (and we took quite a few), so you can definitely do it that way if you want to go along with tradition/what your FMIL wants, but it's really up to you.

  We are taking ALL our pictures before the ceremony. Our ceremony and reception are at the same location and we want to spend as much time with our guests as possible. My FI and I want to see eachother before the ceremony though so it is not a big deal to us. In my opinion it is not necessarily bad like your mom said. Some of the sweetest pictures I have seen are the intimate, personal shots of the bride and groom seeing eachother before the wedding. Just do whatever you want and what fits your wedding better.

  i agree, do whatever suits you best.  not seeng each other before the wedding is a custom, but definitely not a requirement.i think stephen and i might do the same thing.  our ceremony doesn't start until 7:30 p.m. (we didn't want to have the big gap between the ceremony and reception, so we have to have the ceremony after 5:30 mass), and we want to get to the reception as soon as possible.

  It's your wedding day, and this decision should be made by you and your FI.  I say do what you want, and don't let others intrude!My FI and I have a time constraint problem with sunlight and everyone is telling us to just take all our pictures before, but both FI and I really want to be the first sight of each other to be me walking down the isle towards him.If you have hear your heart set on something being a certain way, then you need to follow it.  You don't want to regret it later, or be upset that your missing out while taking pics.  It will show that your not relaxed in the pictures.just my $0.02

  I had two friends who did all the photos before the wedding and I asked their DH's if they regretted seeing them before the ceremony. They both said no, that seeing them walk down the aisle was totally different.However, I don't want FI to see me before the wedding, so we're doing as many separate photos as possible before the ceremony and then taking the rest after. It probably won't take long. Ultimately, like everyone else said, you have to do what makes you happy.
