save the dates..necessary?

Are sending out Save the Dates, necessary? We only have a few people coming from out of town. I just feel that it's an expense we can avoid?

I don't think they are necessary, no....there are other ways you can keep people in the loop regarding the wedding- a website, etc. And if you only have a few people coming from OOT, then I don't think it's the end of the world if you don't send any out...If you did decide to do them, you could cut expenses by designing something yourself and having them printed on postcards on Vistaprint- not very expensive :)

We had many people coming from out of town and we didn't send them.  Everyone invited to our wedding was a close family member or friend. Everyone knew about the wedding and if they needed specifics they called us or our parents.

I'm not sending them out - I agree that they're definitely an avoidable expense. But I plan on sending out the invites at least 2 months before the wedding, because we need RSVPs 30 days before for the caterer.

just send out an email to your few out of town guests to let them know you picked a date and to be preparing to make arrangements if they plan to come
