Expensive Bridesmaid dress

Ok so I was looking at all the suggested retailers for bridesmaid dresses here on the knot and absolutely fell in love with a Jim Hjelm one that is approximately $260....two of my bridesmaids (both my sisters) refuse and say that is too much money. I dont know what to do or find another dress that I really like that is cheaper and the same color (truffle- kind of a dark tan) Help!!!!

Before you start looking for BM dresses, you are supposed to ask your BMs privately and individually for their price range on dresses, and take alterations into account. Did you do that? What is their price range? You can start looking for dresses within that price range. You'll probably want to take them to a few bridal shops and have them try on dresses. Since they are the ones paying for and wearing the dress, they do get some say in the style. You can take along pics of the dress and ask about something similar. If you can't find something you all agree on within their range, or you are dead set on this dress, you can pay for it or pay the difference.

yeah find another dress. Colors aren't too hard to match.... you should be able to find the same color again. It will happen. Maybe ask your girls their price range and then only look within that pricerange.

1. Find a new dress OR 2. Pay for that dress for each of them OR 3. Find out what they can pay, have them pay that, and you pay the remainder for that dress 2 & 3 should only be done if they like the dresses and they look good on.

Ditto the other lovely ladies. Find out their price range and then start looking. It's really best to wait to shop until at least December at the earliest - then start going to bridal shops and ask to see items in their price range.Another option is to also look at places like J.Crew and Ann Taylor. They have sales all the time and their dresses are classic.

You have good taste for liking JH....my girls wore JH dresses. However, I ASKED them first how much they were willing to pay and they all said that they could spend anywhere up to $250. I thought this was crazy. I found them for cheaper than what they were priced at, but still, you need to ask YOUR girls what they can afford. Have you done this? Also, have they seen the dress? What if they don't like it? $260 is a LOT of money to spend on a dress that they may not even like.

What you do: 1. Find out their budgets. 2. Find a dress that costs less than the lowest number you are given. 3. Accept that you will have to make compromises in your wedding planning when you are dealing with other peoples' money. 4. Take your BMs shopping and have some fun. 5. Keep an open mind and be flexible. I envisioned my BMs in short green dresses. Long story short, they wound up in long coral dresses that they loved and I loved just as much. Compromise is an important skill in marriage, you might as well practice it with your BMs.

Ditto PPs, you need to ask them what they want to spend BEFORE picking out a dress. And if the one you want is too expensive, then either pick something else or chip in some cash to help them out. Also, don't just pick out a dress on their behalf. Let them try it on and give their opinions. Even if it looks nice on the website or the clothes hanger, it might look like crap on them. And what looks icky on the website might look awesome on them. Contact pearlsplace.com for a quote - they're a legit wholesaler based in Louisiana and can give you a better price. A girl on my local board said she got $100 a Jim Hjelm BM dress through them. I think David's Bridal has "truffle" dresses. Try nordstrom.com as well. And post a pic of the dress here and maybe we can suggest a cheaper alternative.

Other good reputable wholesalers are rkbridal.com and netbride.com. David's has a really nice truffle (that's what I wore in my sister's wedding), I think my dress there was around $150. My older sister found a dress for that wedding that she liked, the located it on eBay in her size for $20. So that's an option.

2 of my girls had a dress that was quoted at 215, but when I called PP, they quoted it as 165.

Pay anything over $200 yourself. Expensive gown = you kick in $$problem solved
