NWR: Dog and Cat help needed.

We just got our kitten a new litter box, because the one he had was too small. The new one has a cover and a few steps to go up. The cat loves it and so does our little Jack Russell. My in-law's dog does that too! She hasn't been doing it as much recently. Not sure if it's because she's getting older or what. I know they haven't done anything to get her to stop. It still sits out in the open in the basement. Sorry I can't help with that, but you're not alone. :)

I used to work in a pet store and we got this question all the time!  One thing I can recommend is getting a baby gate and putting it in the doorway of the room the litter box is in, but put it about 10-12" off the floor so your cat can go underneath but the dog can't.  I know JR's are small, but cats should easily be able to slink under that.  It seems like a pain, but unfortunately there's no deterant that will repel the dog and not the cat too, at least not that I know of :/  HTH!
