Inexpensive but nice venues in North Jersey?

Hi, I am looking for inexpensive venues for a wedding not too far from South Orange. Fiance and I are both unemployed.  Been to The Tides in North Haledon -- beautiful, a little far out. Been to The Westwood in Garwood -- cheap, but a little dumpy. Other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

What do you consider to be inexpensive?

Not sure what your definition of "inexpensive" is....but I found that the Atrium was affordable, which is where I'm having my reception. It is in West Orange.

We booked The Tides and feel we're getting a good deal. We also considered Costa Del Sol in Union, and Bridgewater Manor (all under $100pp because we were looking into March and April weddings). Off-topic, but Tif, I thought I was going looney when I saw your new sig pic.

i had mine at the landmark in east rutherford...and i loved it.....it was approx $100pp when all was said and done on a sat night in oct....the min was normally 200 for the room, but they lowered it to 170....the amount of food you get is ridiculous and it was really good.... i'm really bad with towns and where they are in relation with each other (if its not the town i grew up in or the surrounding towns....) so...not sure if that is too far out for you....

Not sure what time of year you are looking at, but you can try IL Villaggio, Carlstadt. They have good deals in the slow season on friday nights

Thanks. Inexpensive is less than $75 pp. I am willing to do afternoon and winter to go that low. 100-120 people.

almost any venue can be "inexpensive". It all depends on what you are willing to sacrifice.  I'm sure if you decided to have a day wedding in feb you would be able to get some goodrates.  My wedding was at valley regency. Sat day in May was 105pp.Sidenote...not sure if your family will be paying for the wedding but you may want to wait until at least one of you  is remployed.  The costs will def add up quickly.

For an afternoon in winter you should be able to bargain with most places around here. I would start with the manor and Atrium. Also look at Wilshire Grand, Grand Summit, Park Ave Club, The Brownstone and Mayfair Farms. Depending on how many people you are having if you are ok with something a little less traditional the restaurant that opened above eden gourmet does private parties and has a large outdoor space. SOPAC also has a party room upstairs if you are looking to stay in South Orange.  There is also a women's club around here that a few people have mentioned and some of the frungillio places are close to that price range for off season.

The Tides quoted us about $65pp for a Friday night in March. We almost took that date, but I chickened out at the last minute because it's a Lent Friday and I have hardcore Catholic family members. You could probably also get under $75pp with a Saturday afternoon rate. We're marrying in Jersey City and I thought it was too far, but several family members and friends told us it was fine (and they are honest people who'd absolutely tell me if it was too far for people to drive). Also look into Courtyard on Main in Freehold and Ravello's in East Hanover. The Forge in Woodbridge is also low-priced, not sure if that's your style though. Ditto for Pantagi's in Scotch Plains.

Oh missed the part about both of you being unemployed...Honestly I would wait, even if your parents are paying for it.

Oooh, yeah, I also missed that part. Look around and get ideas all you like for now, but I would not seriously plan anything or book anything until you've both gotten jobs and steadily held them for a few months. Jobs are more important right now. Or if you really want to get married now and that's more important than a big reception, do a super-small church/temple ceremony, or go to the courthouse, and follow with a restaurant meal for about 10 of your nearest and dearest people.

i agree with the others regarding being unemployed. My fiance and I are having a 2+ year engagement to save up for the wedding. It was well worth the wait. Having the added extra stress of being unemployed is not what you want when planning your wedding. You want to enjoy it as much as possible!!!

Park Ave Club would not even close to come that low. They run some specials but they have 1 price all year, 10% off for Friday or Sunday. Day isn't cheaper bc you get the room for a minimum of 5 hrs before so they wouldn't hold 2 weddings in one day. Plus that room is huge for 100, I think the lowest min was 150.

Park Ave Club quoted me 125 during peak season with a min of 150 on a Sat night. I figured off season those numbers would go down considerably.
