QOTD Tuesday

Anyone play sports growing up? Are you on an adult sports team?

Re: QOTD Tuesday

  • I was on the swim team for our community pool for several years and played tennis on my middle school team.

Now I just run. I am still shy to join an adult team, plus I don't know if I would be able to fit into my schedule.

  • Nope and nope.  I wanted to try out for teams a couple times through the years but my mom never let me do any after school activities.  She was SSSSUUUUPPPPERRR over-protective and wouldn't let me go anywhere unless she was with me or had driven me there herself.  The idea that I might have to *GASP* ride home with a friend after practice when she was at work was too much.

  • I took tennis lessons but never played on a team.  I was never very good.

  • I cheered in Rec League 1st-5th grade, played rec league basketball in 7th (fail) and church league basketball in 10th (epic fail).  I thought about continuing to cheer in JV and Varsity, but it would have required missing Wednesday night church for practices and basketball season.  Not only would my parents not have allowed that, I didn't want to miss youth group and leading preschool & children's choir.
  • I played T-ball when I was young (like ages 4-6) but didn't want to move on in baseball because I was scared of the pitching machine.

I played volleyball 7-8th grade and was decent at it. I could never do overhand serves because I have messed up shoulders.

And last but not least, I was a cheerleader in 9th grade. It was fun being the flyer, but even at a small Christian school there was still drama.

  • Not necessarily a "sport" but I danced from age 2-21, and still do teach dance on and off. I miss it so much and wish I could do it every day still!

I know it seems to be a point of disagreement among people. I think it can have sport-like aspects but I didn't like the competition aspect of it growing up, so I like to think of it more as an art for myself but I do see sport types of dance as well. :)

  • I played softball (Little league) when I was 8-12, I played volleyball in 7th and 8th grade and basketball in 6th and 7th grade.  Which makes me look far more athletic than I am.

This past summer I played on a co-ed softball team from my church, which was a ton of fun.  Hopefully FI and I can join a team this summer.  I'm decent at softball, and the team wasn't ultra-competitive, so I enjoyed that a lot.  I also played kickball for a couple seasons with my coworkers.
  • I played fastpitch softball from 5 through college and then on a women's team for a while after that.  I also coached collegiate softball and gave private pitching lessons.  This past summer was the first time I didn't play since kindergarten.  It was sad :-(  We were all just so busy (myself included) that we couldn't get enough people together to cover all the games.

I also played basketball and soccer, but I always looked at them as a way to help me stay in shape for softball.  Softball was, and always will be, my first love.

I danced from 8-18. I also competed with the company for 5 of those years before "retiring".  I miss it and would love to start up again.

    I danced from age 4-18.

    I cheered.

    I played tennis.

I played volleyball competitvely for 3 years before I had to quit because of an injury.

    I surfed-- it counts! ;)

    And now, I run.

  • I played soccer and softball growing up. I got really sick when I was 9 and that put an end to all of that, though.

I dabbled in a lot of sports when I was younger--tennis, basketball, swimming, softball--but nothing ever stuck, I was too tall and awkward and didn't have enough strength to ever excel (or to master the basics of coordination).

I used to play for a church volleyball team, but then I gave that up because then-FI would visit on the weekends and I had to change my schedule so I could see him more. I got pretty good the more I went, relatively speaking. The church we are thinking about going to from now on has a volleyball league I'm thinking about going to.

(Sometimes I wish I had tried volleyball from the start ... I'm 5'10, so my height could have actually been of some use then.)
  • I played soccer and basketball in high school and then intramural basketball and volleyball in college.  I used to play softball for work but I haven't for at least 5 years now.  I run by myself but don't play any organized sports.

  • I would say a definite "no" to doing sports as a kid, despite the fact I did tap for a year and ballet for half a year. I was really terrible and obviously it didn't take.

I hated sports all the way through growing up, and through most of college, then... I found my sport!

Fencing.  It was so much fun! But they only started a fencing club the very last semester of college. And I've not been able to afford it since, but maybe someday I'll be able to take it back up.

I was doing the Couch to 5K program recently, but had to stop. Planning on taking it back up though. Eventually I will finish. (This is running, if you're wondering.)

  • Softball for 2 years when I was little, tennis in high school for a year... But my main thing was dance! I danced from age 7-12 in a studio, was on the dance team in high school, dance team in college, coached a dance team after college and teach hip hop to 6-8 year-olds now. I am also participating in Dancing With the Teachers again this year for the third year. Dancing is my sport.
