Right now, I think that my sister said I am like 600$ under budget but this is really just "guestimating" the costs of all the vendors (i.e if we paid the florist X amount of money, etc). We only have a few things set in stone so right now it seems like we are doing really good, but then again we wont know for a while where we REALLY stand. So for right now...we are still under budget. I hope it lasts like this...LOL

I feel sad about how over budget I am this far out.  My parents and I set a budget of 30,000$.  10,000 of my own and 20 of theirs.  We had a place that was in range set that I was really excited about and then they said they were remodeling.  We scrambled to find a new place that was just as pretty and my parents wanted to do the Portofino Bay which I am very excited about but it was way more expensive than the original place. I calculated tons and tons and decided that even though it was 1500 over budget, we could cut in other places and it would be fine and still make our budget.  So, we booked. Now, we had decided upon a guest list of 75 people in March.  In August, my Dad decided he wanted to instead invite a ton of people I don't know and now the guest list is 105 people and the budget is nearing 40,000 dollars.  I argued and argued about it but got nowhere. So, the food and alcohol for our guests will be around 21,000 dollars and I'm trying to fit everything else in the rest of the budget which is almost impossible.  They don't mind spending the extra money but it really bothers me a lot. I feel like I'm trying to be cheap on every other aspect of the wedding when I would've rather felt comfortable with what we were spending and maybe have had a little breathing room to add some fun stuff I was thinking about.  My head spins just thinking about how much the food is going to cost.  I keep telling them that I don't even know how to budget for anything anymore because we are so far off the original budget.

Wow that really sucks that your dad added all of these ppl to the list. the good thing is that you are not paying for it, but i know what you mean when you say that it has your head spinning, for the simple fact that you didnt expect to spend this much! I was wondering if you can talk to them about still providing you with the original amount they were going to give you minus the cost of the 75 ppl you originally wanted to have, and see what they say...but i dont know if thats a convo you would want to have with your parents!

They are paying for their extra people so they're not making me pay for all these people I don't know but I just didn't want the wedding to be so expensive is all.  I worry that they'll spend all this money and then lots of stuff will go wrong and we'll regret spending as much as we did because it wasn't perfect anyway or something.  But, they picked the Portofino because almost all the guests are from out of state and they wanted it to be a fun weekend and for the guests to stay close to the amusement parks and stuff to do.  The cheaper places we looked at were not near Universal/Disney, etc.
