JP Recommendations

Hello!I was wondering if any of you ladies could suggest your Justice of the Peace?  I have already checked with Tom Welch (highly suggested on here) and he is booked :( .  We are not looking for a religious ceremony, but want it to be really personal.  I don't even know how to look for a JP besides getting recommendations from others, so please share your suggestions! Thanks!!

I can't recommend ours bc we haven't used him yet, but I can tell you how we found him. We called up some of the local town halls (like where we're most likely to go for our marriage license) for recommendations and I put FI to work calling down the list.  Just from a brief conversation FI got an idea of his/her personality.  Some he eliminated right away (like if they seemed to religious or had requirements--like insisting we meet well ahead of time, etc).  We ended up booking a guy who is a lawyer (as opposed to a professional "JP" or former clergy member), seems pretty nice/laid back, and gave off a good vibe.  In MA there is a law about how JPs can't charge over a certain price for performing a ceremony if it's in their town, but they can charge for attending rehearsals, meetings, etc: http://justiceofthepeacemassachusetts.blogspot.com/2009/02/governor-deval-patrick-has-increased.html

I also checked with Tom Welch, but he was booked.  We ended up using Donna Cunio out of Norwell.  We had our first meeting with her and she takes about an hour to talk to you about what you want and get to know you, then she writes a specific ceremony tailored to you.  She also can give you suggestions on vows, readings, etc.  She received really good reviews on either weddingwire or project wedding and yelp.http://www.yelp.com/biz/reverend-donna-m-cunio-norwell

I loved loved loved my JP, Carol Merletti. She met and exceeded all my expectations. Even the moms were thrilled with her, and both our mom's were initially really uneasy about a non-clergy person performing the ceremony. Her website is weddingofyourdesire.com. I have reviews in my bio as well.

Please check out our JP, Dan Griffiths! He was amazing - we got so many compliments on our ceremony, and he was so easy to work with. He loves his job and it shows!! Review and a link to his website in my married bio.

I recommend Rick Perry Jr. from Gloucester - great guy.  He has a website and should show up if you google (with gloucester).   They can only charge a certain fee for performing the cermony but it's half price if it's their hometown so you may wnat to start there.  Our JP charged the same half price for the rehearsal but it's not necessarily required that they be there. In the scheme of things it's not a lot of money esp compared to the hundreds and thousands for everything else and they're also doing the most important part of the whole wedding!

Melanie Bibo Voros was AMAZING. She is out of Portsmouth, but I know she travels. We spoke with her a couple of times prior to the summer and met with her a few weeks before our wedding and she helped us create a beautiful wedding. It was the first non-religious ceremony in my family and we received many compliments about how personal the ceremony was. She helped us create a beautiful day. GL!
