Imagen and Instant Request Knotties

For Instant Request..how much did you tip? Their website recommends $150. Since we're off season we're only paying $595, so 20% of that would be roughly $120. Do you think that's ok?And for Imagen International photography...on their contract it says "your pre-gratuity balance is....". I though photographers weren't tipped because we receive a product. What are other Imagen knotties doing? Tip 20%? And we're having a lead photographer and an assistant, so should we split the 20% tip between them (or however much we tip)? Thanks! 10 days to go!!!!

We tipped IR $100.  I was kind of turned off by their 'recommending' how much we should tip so I just tipped what I wanted.  Also, I tipped on our wedding night, not before like they want you to.  Our DJ seemed perfectly fine with it!And we didn't tip our photographer (although I didn't use Imagen so I don't know if they expect differently).

Hi,We have both of these vendors.  I didn't even think about tipping photogs, do you think we're supposed to?  Not sure what we'll do on the DJ, i would guess we'll do 15% of what we paid though.

I personally think that a vendor putting a suggestion for a tip in the contract is like putting your registry information on your invite. Generally you tip those people who don't own their business, unless they go above and beyond their services. An IR DJ doesn't own the business so I would tip him for his services on the night.

We tipped our IR DJ on the night of the wedding. We were married on a Saturday in August (peak season) so 20% of our total invoice would have been $150. That's probably just their year-round suggestion, depsite the fact that some couples pay less during non-peak times. I think $120 would certainly be fine.

We're using Imagen; I noticed that in the contract as well and thought it was a little strange that they added it in there. It's actually listed in a few places. Have you received their formals planning sheet yet? On the one we received it says "*Gratuity is greatly appreciated! 10-15% gratuity rate is industry standard."It also says "pre-gratuity" on the note we received from them with after we sent the deposit and it says it on the contract as well.

We haven't received that formals planning sheet yet, no.  It's good to know though, I seriously hadn't considered tipping them.  Is it just an Imagen thing, or is it maybe all photographers?

I signed with two photographers during planning. Neither had gratutity mentioned in their contracts. It isn't industry standard either.

I used Instant Request and actually complained to them about their tipping language. They send me 5 emails (yes, 5) that had 2-3 points one of which always said that I basically shouldn't forget to tip $150 (the "average) for their DJ. It was a huge turn off and once I got the fifth emailed I responded and explained that a tip is earned not automatic and they will get one if they do a good job and will get what I feel is appropriate. They did an ok job, and messed up part of our dances (FI's mom didn't go so we removed the mother-son dance 2 weeks before the wedding but they still announced it making things pretty akward) and they didn't follow the order of things we gave them. But, we tipped $50.

I will defo tip what I feel appropriate day of for Instant Request, I agree that a tip is earned.  However I'm unsure of how I will handle Imagen.  I must've missed that on the contract.  How strange though.  I may do so though if I feel it was earned.

I am using Imagen also, and have heard that if the photographer doesn't own the business, then you should tip...I am planning on a "lump tip" and the 2 can split it however they want.

I know Alex owns Imagen (I think) so if he's your lead photographer, you should take that into consideration.
