Photographer Problem!!!!!

So I found a photographer that - based on the online and in person portfolio - seemed to fit our taste/budget/timeline etc. However, once we signed the contract and paid the deposit, I was granted access to the client section of their website where I could view full wedding albums, and now I think I've made a bad decision. The photos in there don't look anything like the ones I viewed in the portfolios. Not to say there aren't good shots - but there's quite a few with bad lighting, out of focus, too far away etc. I know that no album is perfect, but UGHHH!!! For those already married - did you really have to pick through to get great shots?So....Do I cross my fingers and hope that my wedding will be different? Maybe I can convey the shots I want and more pictures will be great? or do I scrap my deposit and start all this over again.....nothing kills a budget bride more than losing a deposit!!!

    We honestly did not have 1 bad wedding picture out of the whole day. The online photos are probably the true representation of his work, and his portfolio is probably the best of the best pictures that the has. I hate to say this, but if it were me I'd find another photographer. Your pictures will be the one thing from your wedding that you'll be able to keep for the rest of your life.

    If the deposit wasn't all that much, If I were you, I'd go with a different photographer.  You don't want to regret using this photographer after your wedding day.What's your budget anyways?If you're on a budget, I know of a good photographer:http://www.ferryhuangphotography.comHis work is pretty nice and his pricing is really good.  Just take a look at his website.     My photog didn't give us any clunkers in our gallery. It doesn't reflect well on them to have their name associated with less than stellar quality. I'd be nervous too. I think you'd be naive to think it was a one time day of bad photography. Is it just one wedding gallery you can see or all of them? You can give a little direction on a shot list, but unfortunately you can't do much about their lighting, focus, and bad angles. :(

    I suggest that you post something on here and The Nest to see if anyone has personal experience with your photographer.  Maybe they can give you their opinion with their final pictures.

    i didnt have a single bad shot from our photographer. i agree with pp, theres no excuse for those kind of photos. it stinks you will lose your deposit, but i do think you should look elsewhere. you dont want to be disappointed when you look back at your photos.

    Thanks for all the advice.  I always sort of knew that I should just go elsewhere, but I needed that reassurance that I wasn't just being an indecisive, picky bride!  I've started looking at other options... Steeser - I emailed you yesterday - thanks for the reply - I contacted Kate!Now - it's just finding the right way to "break up" with the current photog....

    Sounds like you've already made the right decision, but definitely don't hesitate to look elsewhere. I wish I had!!! I had several frustrations with my photographer along the way and only had a $250 deposit at risk, but I naively ignored the warning signs and stuck it out. Among other issues, my wedding pictures are nothing like the style I wanted, the style that was advertised on my photographer’s website and portfolio. (You're fortunate--I had no warning this would be the case.) Out of 1600+ pictures, I had to pick through to find the few that were good. Trust your gut on this one.

    And when you "break up" with your photographer, don't be afraid to be honest. Their advertising is misleading compared to the final product!
