Sticker Shock

So I just got the quote from our venue for the beer and wine we plan to serve.  We asked for quotes for a keg (cause we're classy like that) of Shock Top, Blue Moon and Miller Lite, the 3 beers that we drink most often.  I thought that Shock Top and Blue Moon would be a little pricey, but OMG!  Blue Moon is $543.15 and Shock Top $320.  They want $287.55 for Miller Lite.  Talk about a mark up.  My FMIL is supposed to be paying for the beer and wine... I'm letter her decide what to do about the prices.

That sounds like the first venue we had booked.  Their mark-ups on a keg were the main reason we decided not to go with them.

That is really high - Have you thought of going with the seasonal blue moon? Maybe that will be cheaper?

I think FI decided to just go with Shock Top.  Our beer drinking guests will be happy with that.  Now he gets to tell his mama that he wants a $320 keg.

Wow those are atrocious prices. Is there an extra price per person for serving it or just the keg fee?

Yikes! That's outrageous. You're not allowed to bring your own alcohol I guess?

That sounds expensive. We got Miller Lite and Sam Adams at our venue for 250 each

I don't know if there's an extra per person fee. It is crazy how much they're charging.

Update:  We've decided to just have wine.  We're concerned that we'll pay all that money for a keg and the beer go to waste.  Plus, we're having an after party and there will be lots of beer/wine/liquor there so it should be fine.

Good choice just going with wine. My parents are getting a keg for my wedding. It cost $225 for domestic and $300 for Imported. We will also be doing bottled wine at the tables and then Sangria and Rum Punch. I was going to do a sponsor bar, but my mom talked me out of it. She said between the wine, keg, and punches the guest should be happy!  If they want something stronger, the guest will have to purchase themselves.
A happy newlywed...now time to start a family!

obiang: Where are you getting your sangria and rum punch from? I am having cuban food for my wedding in May and thought Sangria would be perfect and more affordable than an open bar.
