Well :( we had to postpone!

Found out last week that FI had torn pretty much every ligament in his knee except for one plus shredded both of his meniscus'. So that includeds his ACL (which the surgeon said he had barely any of it left), his MCL, LCLs. The only one he didnt do any damage to was the PCL, which just so happens to be the smallest ligament in your knee. He had surgery Wednesday, and he is bed-ridden for at least 2 weeks. Then he cant put any pressure on his leg for at least 6 months. The surgeon said this will be a long slow painfull recovery. If he goes at PT with full blown effort, he will have full use of his knee within two years. I think him getting better is much more important than the wedding right now. Plus he said he can always just hobble in on crutches! lol thats my baby. but thats the scoop on whats going on. Hopefull well pick up planning by this time next year! SCHOBEY TO BEEEEE!!!20??

Re: Well :( we had to postpone!

  • OUCH that sounds so painful, that is awful. Thats cute that he said he's hopple in on crutches. Sounds like something my man whould say. Speedy recovery for your man.
  • I hope he gets better soon. However I see that as no reason to postpone your wedding a little less then a year away. Yes crutches or a wheelchair are fine for the groom if that is who he is. In sinckness and in health waiting for health seems well silly. Marry him when you planned.
  • Yea :) i can see where your coming from when you say go as planned. My worry is that he will be in tooo much pain. We were planning on june or july of next year. thats what.. 8-9 months away. he will be able to be on crutches by then. I just dont want him to be in pain on our special day, you know? its worth the wait for me if it means he will be feeling better. Its really hard to see him in pain right now. Hes always been my strong man. and he still is :) bu if i had to stand there knowing he was in pain and we could of waited... that would break my heart all over again. ON THE HAPPY SIDE!! We'll just play it by ear on how his recovery is. Thanks for all your Support ladies!STB Mrs. Peyton Joy Maugham Schobey
  • You def need to do what is the best for you, and if it were me in that situation waiting would not be a big issue. I would want my FI to enjoy his day on both of his feet without pain. If you both agree to wait when he feels like he can do it without pain then so be it. You are a great gal for being understanding and not demanding.
  • You can definitely play it by ear, you still have 9 months or so.    You could also get creative with the ceremony.  You could put a chair up at the altar in case he gets tired or plan a really short, simple ceremony.  You need to do what's best for you, but for me, I'd rather be married to my FI (even if I have to marry him in a wheelchair or don't get a first dance), than to wait an extra year for him to be fully functional. My FI tore all the same knee parts as your FI.  He was off crutches in 2 months and was walking completely normally within 5.  And he just started playing squash and tennis again this month.  Speedy recoveries from this harsh of an accident are possible. :-)GL to you and your FI with everything.

  • I meant to add that keeping the same wedding date would also depend on how my FI felt about it.  If he wanted to postpone, I would.  But if he wanted to go ahead as planned, I wouldn't make him wait out of worry.  He knows his body best.  GL!

  • Totally understand why you are pushing it back. He will get to enjoy the party better and be more comfortable and you won't be feeling gulity because you know he is hurting. Good luck I hope he has a full and speedy recovery.p.s.  to me pushing your date back shows that you really care for him and his happiness too!
  • In early August, FI had knee surgery to repair a torn ACL, PCL, and meniscus. (Which sounds like peanuts compared to your FIs!) He was in HORRIBLE pain for about 2 months, and was up on his crutches within two weeks of the surgery. We're hoping that he regains most of his strength by New Year's. The surgeon said knee surgery is probably the most painful surgery that you can undergo and takes a while for you to fully recover. I wish him the best of luck and, if you FI is anything like mine, I wish YOU luck taking care of him! ;-)I hope things work out with your wedding, but even if you have to postpone it I'm sure it will be lovely when it happens.
  • Thank you ladys. Well its been exactly three weeks since the surgery and he is actually doing better than the doctors expected. He is bending his knee now and can maneuver way better on crutches. they said a year now to full recovery. But at the rate hes going.. he might be like some of yalls FI and be ready to go waaay before then. Also as we were talking about it last night.. he said we arent getting married later than JULY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he was firm in that statement. lol. So im thinking i might have overreacted on haulting everything. So looks like its Summer '10 for us! thanks for all your help girls. yall have been a great support!!! i wish good luck to all of you and your FI's. Schobey to BEEE!!2010
