Education Majors :)

Hey yall! Any education major brides out there??

I'm a junior early childhood ed major. Ideally I would like to teach kindergarten or 1st grade. After a few years of teaching in the USA I would like to teach in another country. (FI and I are planning on being international missionaries.) I go to a small, private university in South Carolina.

Hope I am not alone :)

I'm an EDUC major!!  K-12 Special Ed and K-5 Regular Ed with an English concentration.  (Still not sure why I had to pick a concentration...pretty sure all my Elem teachers taught all subjects, but whatever).  I just finished my 5th year...adding the 2nd major and almost doing a few different minors ended up making a 4 year program a 6 year. :)  But, I'm at a large Christian school in VA and love it!  FI is going to be a youth pastor, so he has to find a church after he graduates in December before I look for districts to apply to.  I'm hoping to eventually open a Pre-K-12 Christian school with a strong Special Ed program.  But that'll be waaaaaay down the road. :)

  • I'm a senior in Teaching of English, which is a secondary level degree. I'll be student teaching in Fall 2011! I really want to teach in VA eventually, I love it there!

I'm not an Ed major (well, 1st semester of college I was) but I think that your future plans are awesome! I graduated from a small Christian school and I don't think many of the Christian schools have much of a Special Ed program. KUDOS!

Thanks.  I know it's going to take a lot to get there, but it's my dream.  I grew up in public school, but there was a family in my church whose kids were in different schools because the Christian school just didn't have the resources that the public school did for one of their kids.  I'm really hoping I can get some good donors who can support the program, since I'm pretty sure it'll be hard to get federal/state assistance like the public schools get.  The Christian school I've done observations at does have support services for mild disabilites, but nothing for moderate/severe/profound, just because they can't afford it.

  • I'm an education major (EC-6 Generalist with ESL certification)!!!  I'm a senior at Sam Houston State University and I will graduate in December!  I'm super excited to graduate but I'm also nervous about finding a job in December :/  To top that off, my FI is moving to Norman, OK in August to start his PhD at OU...this means I have the privledge of getting re-certified in another state...oh boy, more tests ;)

But, I love Norman so I am really excited to be moving up there!
  • I'm a Secondary English Edu major. I'm really excited about it. People tell me I'm crazy for wanting to teach high school, especially english, but I really love it. My HS english teachers were always my favorites. My FI is hoping to be a youth pastor. Apparently, we both have a passion for teenagers. We're both crazies, I guess. Haha.

I'm marrying a youth pastor, too.  Do y'all know where you're going to end up yet?  I honestly think that's the hardest part of it all.  I know it's between FI and God, but it is a little frustrating not knowing where we'll be next year, and not really being able to apply for teaching jobs until he finds a church.  Nice to know someone else is in the same boat! :)
    ~Emily
  • Wow! Alot of us are marrying youth pastors!! :) My FI is currently at a church now by our school. We will stay here for a few years then go on to seminary in Cali.

My school required education majors to be double majors so I'm Elementary Education and English with a focus in Creative Writing. Planning on teaching 2nd or 3rd grade after I graduate. It'll be a while though because I transferred after my first year and not all my credits transfered over. Combine that with a double major, and I'm in a 5 year program. Fiance wants to teach high school, but hasn't decided what subject yet (he's torn between three).
  •  Im a Secondary Education Major minoring in communications (to teach public speaking). If I could I would stay in school double major in Communications and slap on sociology, family studies and holistics. All of which have opened my World view of the issues that surround youth today. Funny enough my fiance is a Pilot with a business degree we met through a mutual friend when I was dating a loser but fate took over lol.
  • I'm a senior elementary education major! :) My FH will graduate next spring too but from a different university. I want to teach kindergarten!! happy planning to you :)
  • I am a secondary spanish education major at SEMO and will be a junior this year. I was a missionary most of my childhood, living in the Philippines for six years and then Honduras for four. I plan on teaching in the US through out the year and then volunteering my services as a translator during the summer months. I will definitely keep your new family in my prayers as you embark on a new life together in the service. :)
  • I got my undergrad degree in English (Creative Writing) but I'm starting a Master's in Special Ed in the fall, and am quite excited about it! I probably should have been an Ed major before, but I love writing too much and couldn't do both because of my participation in music courses. I work with K-2 special needs kids right now, and when I'm awake enough to think I love every minute of it. ;-) Good luck with all the planning, ladies!
  • Just graduated with my Masters in Early Childhood Ed. Also just received my dream job at a school blocks from home and they are building me a classroom that I helped design. I don't know how I got so lucky! Hang in there ladies it is sooo worth it!
  • I am an Elementary Education major too!! K-5 and certifing in Middle School history. I have one more semester to go which is my Student Teaching. I am just so excited that it is almost over and I hope to find a job. The govenor of NJ is making it really hard for teachers to keep their jobs, and future educators to get a job. My Fiance works at a school but he does IT stuff.

  • I am an Elementary Major with an ESL Endorsement. I got into a fast track program through ASU and will be graduating in December of 2011. The program I am entering in August is AMAZING! I will be a full time student teacher for the next three semesters. I am sooo excited to start the program! Fiance said the sooner I graduate the sooner we can get married lol! Good thing I am graduating early ;)

  • Wow, so many early childhood majors here! I feel a little bit alone. Haha!

I'm Chelsea, and I'm a middle childhood major at Ohio University. I'm in my fourth and final year, and I will be student teaching in the fall. My concentrations are language arts and social studies. I want to be a 7th or 8th grade language arts teacher. Most people ask me if I am sure I want to teach middle school! lol. I always tell them the same thing, "Yes, I am sure! They're the most interesting."

It's good to see so many education majors here.
