In need of a little advice...

So, I went through a little drama with my decisions on a wedding gown.  When I picked up the gown that I thought I was going to wear, my step mother came with me.  I tried on a few veils and we both fell in love with a cathedral length ivory veil and is gorgeous!  She decided, as a gift to me, to purchase this veil for me...it was sort of expensive ($300)...but she wanted me to have it.Since then...I have changed my mind about the gown and I am thinking now I want to do wear a birdcage veil.  I am not sure the original veil is going to look good with the gown considering it does not have a long train (it has a puddle train)...How and/or should I?1) Explain to step mother that I do not want to wear the expensive veil she purchased as a gift for me?2) Wear the veil anyway and use the cathedral length of the veil as sort of a "train"?  Maybe have it cut a bit shorter?I don't want to hurt her feelings by not wearing it, but I don't want to look crazy with this long veil and no train gown...WDYT?  Thanks Ladies

I think to avoid upsetting your step mother, your idea about wearing the veil as your train sounds like a great idea.Ask your seamstress if she can attach the veil to the back of the dress at the waist with snaps or hook and eyes to wear for the ceremony and then you can take it off for the reception. You can still birdcage and the veil and no one is offended.

You could also wear it for the ceremony only and then remove it for the rest of the night in order to wear something else. I would avoid conflict too. $300 is a nice gift and you don't want to hurt her feelings.

I think you should keep the veil. How you wear it really depends on the dress. Either way, take the cathedral length veil off for the reception and wear the bird cage veil.

Picturing it in my head, I think the cathedral length veil would look better anyway. Add more drama since you don't really have a train (can you tell I love trains?). You can do the birdcage at the reception ;~)

I like trains too...I am just nervous its going to look strange... No matter what, I definitely am taking off the veil for the reception
