surprise wedding

Hello Ladies... I'm new on this board, but I live in Las Vegas and will be getting married here within a year.  Since i'm new i'll try to give some background.... I don't officially have my ring yet, but we have been ring shopping.  So, I can't help but to think about it! I'm finishing up my Graduate degree (meetings and events management) and my guy is about half way done his bachelor's.  He will have some student loans, I don't have any thanks to an assistanship.  We don't have any car payments (we each own our cars) he has a mortgage on a modest 2 bdr 2 bath condo.  Neither of us carry a credit card balance.  So with all that said... we share the idea of living debt free. I'm looking at wedding options and It's going to be too pricey- so we thought about eloping.  Then after thinking about eloping, I decided I couldn't do it and I want at least my immediate family there. My family lives in Canada, his lives here in Vegas. I was thinking that since my family will all be here for my graduation in May why not do a surprise wedding? If I tell my mum and sisters they will want me to do a big wedding.... which again, we just can't afford. I have thought about the logistics and we could tell everyone (it will be 14 people immediate family and spouses only)that we are going for graduation dinner, and then have the wedding with a justice of the peace and then have dinner. How would you feel if one of your immediate family members did this to you? what if one of your friends did this?? any thoughts???

One of my friends had a surprise wedding. They threw an engagement party and half way through they announced that they were actually getting married. It was awesome. So exciting. I loved it.

A friend was just telling me about his mother-in-law having a surprise wedding. I think it's a fun idea. And let me tell you, after some of our own wedding issues last week, I'd elope or do it your way! lol.You can also check out some of the chapels that offer inexpensive packages...little white wedding chapel and the little church of the west come to mind to take it just a small step further...

I love the idea of a surprise wedding. It gives you two things to celebrate. Your graduation and your marriage. That's great!! My cousin had a graduation party last year to celebrate her getting her graduate degree and her MOM surprised her by getting married at her party. It was so exciting and we all still talk about it.

thanks ladies! what a suportive board!!! I'm really getting excited about my idea now. I thought about going to a small chapel, but none of them really fit my styleI'm thinking an off strip hotel poolside- then a private room at a restaurant for dinner and then possibly out for cocktails... all at one hotel so we're not moving around. I think I want a bouquet too... it will make me feel like a bride :) since I won't be able to ask my friends and family for opinions I think I will be relying on you ladies!

I think a surprise wedding would be great fun! There are loads of great outdoor locations on the Strip to get married. Hotels with outdoor chapels include: Caesar's, Mandalay Bay, Wynn, Flamingo, Tropicana to name but a few.You can also get married pretty much anywhere in Vegas. I know there have been ceremonies at the Welcome to Las Vegas Sign and in-suite as well.Once you have a better idea of your budget, let us know and people will make suggestions in your price range for you. Living in Vegas as you do, you're also in a great position to go around and meet with all the various different chapels and restaurants before making any decision. Hope you have a lot of fun with it all!
