Using accent color in Black & Ivory Wedding

So my wedding is in the winter & we will be using black & ivory as our colors. The BMs will be in black dresses & GMs will be in all black suits. I'm having trouble figuring out how to use an accent color w/o it taking over the whole wedding. Also, I would like opinions on the accent color....a medium purple or a deep red? TIA!! Was considering doing reception in primarily the accent color just to make it a little unexpected...what do ya'll think? Has anyone else done this before?

Re: Using accent color in Black & Ivory Wedding

  • We had basically black, red, and ivory.  Pics in bio of how we did it.  We had red BM dresses but if you are having black, a great way to bring in the accent color is through the flowers and centerpieces.

  • The last wedding I went to was black and white with purple accents. The only purple was the BM shoes and some ceiling decorations at the reception hall. I think some flowers/CPs with purple or purple cocktail napkins would have helped pull it together a bit more.

  • Our colors are marine/navy blue, white and silver.  There ceremony will be mainly white (BMs and GMs will have the blue).  Our reception, though, will be mostly blue and silver.  So, the blue will come as a big surprise then. I think that a deep purple or red would look really pretty with black and ivory.
  • You're a budget, classic, winter, DIY bride, too!? I thought I was the only one...Red or purple sounds fine, I considered both for my black and white color scheme.

  • I like purple with B&I, but I also think clover/apple green would look awesome. OR purple AND apple green.
  • That is a shiitload of badges.

  • We are doing black and ivory for our wedding next weekend.  Our accent color is green which will appear in the flowers, centerpieces and pocket squares.  I think either of your color ideas would look nice.

  • Reds and/or purples will go great with the black and ivory. Either all one color will be great, or mix in a little deep purple. I also like deep red roses (or other flowers) with just a touch of a muted lavender filler flower (limonium).
  • My colours are black and white, and my accents are deep purple and silver. Black table cloths, napkins are going to be white, or purple..haven't decided yet. Also chairs are silver. Centre pieces will have more purple in them...Also thinking of doing paper lanterns in white and black...Oh man I still have so many little things to still decide.

  • Our colors were black and white and we used green as our accent.  The only thing that was green was our centerpieces, flowers, and a few other details.  I think it's a great attention grabber when you use a different color just for accent.
  • I am having a black/white wedding also and am going to use green as an accent color is my BM bouquets and centerpieces.
