Black Friday

I have never ever shopped during black friday before, I am trying to decide if its worth it for me. Does anyone know if places like Banana Republic or JCrew have good deals? Fi liked one at Banana Republic, and I was thinking of getting him that for X-mas....

    They usually do, but you have to be there at like 4am to get things dirt cheap.

    I love shopping on Black Friday.  The best deals are usually in the early morning when the stores/mall first opens.  I know there are websites you can subscribe to so that when a store has a deal for BF, you'll get an email.  My FI signed up, but I don't recall the site...you can probably google it.

    I almost teared up when I read you've never shopped on black friday...if it weren't for black friday I probably wouldn't have 75% of the items I own I've gotten everything from TV's to vacuum cleaners, everything VS and department stores galore... They will DEFINITELY have good deals...and usually clothing stores run their specials/discounts all day long as opposed to places like Target or electronic stores - they should be now or very soon advertising the types of specials they will be having Unfortunately I will be in NC this year for black friday and am devastated bc I won't mess with shoppers on that day in the south - its legal to carry so I think I'll pass this year

    I've done it once and never again. I would do the midnight sales at the outlets if I could this year but never again will I go in the morning on black friday people are crazy!

    I don't bother anymore.  Places with the "doorbusters" are a nightmare, J. Crew probably isn't doing anything (because they tend not to), and Banana has huge sales all the time (like tonight after 5, cardholders get 30% off a $100+ purchase and I think non-cardholders get 25% off).  And a lot of these sales are online now too.  But I can't stand crowds or disorganized stores, so this stuff isn't for me.

    Black Friday is my favorite holiday. No joke. I am taking Black Friday off and working Christmas Eve- I'm nuts. On that note- go to the outlets- BR and JCrew had awesome sales last year and if you get the Outlet coupon book then you get those discounts on top of it! Be warned- went at midnight last year and it was a mobscene. Go at 2 or 3 in the morning and it will be great.

    I have never done shoppe during Black Friday either. I rather pay an extra $20 on an item than get mobbed by crowds....no way

    Mye - That coupon probably wont work online because the code only works once but the print out will.  That site always has great deals.  I got a kitchenaid mixer a couple months ago for $150 from Kohls.

    I love Black Friday too!  We have a ton of little kids in our family and I get some great deals at Toys R Us.  I used to work in retail and for some reason I still like the rush of it all.  I am not really aggressive in those situations, so I am not out to fight anyone over a toy...if I get a good deal, great, if not I will wait till the next sale.  Some people get crazied which I find somewhat amusing.

    I like to shop on black friday but i usually go to the mall at 7am and there are barely any lines.  Its more for the fun and the sales.  my coworker though is one of those people who leaves the dinner table on Thanksgiving to line up at the electronics stores to get super cheap computers and tvs.  He is crazy.  I usually have too much to drink on thanksgiving to be out shopping.  I would spend every penny i had.

    It's a tradition for my mom and I.  Now, Mike is in on it.  Last year we bought a mattress for our guest room and a whole bunch of stuff for our apt.  I know there are some crazies out there, but I have never come across them.  In fact, there is a sort of comeraderie being up and out so early.  I've held places in line and had others do that for me.  I get the plan together after dinner on Thurs, but get the papers the week of.

    ffbride - that's me...as a family, after thanksgiving dinner we usually pass around all the flyers and catalogs and divide and conquer - there's a few of us at every store with the doorbusters lol...its like a tradition really I love it - plus its a good way to make cash if you personally aren't looking for anything - you can buy electronics, etc. on black friday and sell them on ebay a week before Xmas to those last minuters and make a nice penny - especially the doorbuster electronics

    i havent left my house for black friday in years, and don't plan to start going. i think ppl are insane who head to the malls!  you can find awesome deals online that day so if you really must shop, do that.  the only way i'd leave my house was maybe for big ticket electronics... never clothing.  unless it was like 90% off really designer stuff, not worth it.

    i LOVE black friday. When possible I go to the mall, valet the car and walk around and people watch. I make shopping secondary and if I happen to find a great deal I snap it up but mainly i love watching people fight over stuff. macys is my favorite. I will go to best buy or some similar place at some ungodly hour with FI if there is something he really wants and I have waited in those 3 am lines in the past although I dont really want to ever do that again.

    I do not go shopping on black Friday but can offer some insight from my sister who shops ever black Friday and a former employee of BR.. Small stores like BR, Gap, express and J crew do not alas have sales that you would expect to see.. As far as BR goes they usually mark there products down the night or two before a holiday. (ex- before thanksgiving and christmas) they will run a promotion more then likely on somethig whether it's outerwear or something probably at 30-40% off.. Black Friday is more about major stores .. Targets, staples, best buys, k marts etc... Truthfully I'd avoid the mall and concentrate on other stores like the ones listed. If you do decide to the mall try and get there before 7. Other stores depending on restrictions ( Paramus can NOT open before 7) you may have to be there by 4

    after 4 years of working at the plaza, for 16+ hours on a black friday, i avoid that day like the plague.....still work in reatail, but in the corporate side.....i don't leave the house....

    If you're crazy like me, I go to the outlets during Black Friday.  They have the best deals early morning, but have decent deals during the day as well.  I made Woodbury my annual BF outing :)
