I disagree with PP. Your ticket, ID, and passport have to al have the same name. So either change your drivers liscense and passport, or wait till after your trip then change everything. If you decide to change it all, I would recommend changing it ASAP... Passports can take up to 3 months to get back.

Ditto tonysgurl.  Your photo ID and airline boarding pass must match your passport.  However, take a careful look at the passport website or go to the location closest to you where you an apply for one and check to see if you can have the passport expedited.  You may be able to get it before you're trip if you're willing to get everything done like, next week. That said, if you're in doubt, I would just be cautious and wait to change your name until after the trip in Jan.

Your passport IS your ID so it needs to match your ticket.  Other then that the airline and passport control does not know the name on your dl or if you even have one.  The only other ID I have ever been asked for on an international entry is my British visa/ alian ID card.  This has been discussed on the international newlywedds board a great deal, since most of us  travel internationally fairly often and have or will be married.  Many girls after a few years of marriage have not changed their US dl or their SS#.  That said if you can change all IDs before your trip that would be perfered.

Up until a few years ago, they used to do what was called an amendment & would put your new married name in the back of your valid passport.  That's no longer the case.  Now when you change your name, you get a brand new passport.  Here's the official Dept of State link regarding name changes & passports.  http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/fri/ChangeName/ChangeName_851.htmlHTH :)

Also, your ID really should be in agreement regarding your name. If you change your name on everything else but your passport and you somehow end up losing that passport and want to replace it using your maiden/previous name, you would have to prove that you're actually using your maiden/previous name (and having your married name on your Social Security card & driver's license wouldn't prove that).

Okay, now I am really confused. So what if I do not have a drivers license and I use my passport as my id? Just leave my stuff at home and take a photocopy of my passport. I really wanted to do this and the travel agent said it was fine...although I am concerned she doesn't know what she is talking about. I don't want to mess up Austria, so maybe I will just wait until January and give my husband a late Christmas gift!

If anyone would know their stuff it is a travel agent.  You do not need to have a drivers license or even have it match your passport for an international trip. Just be sure you book your airline ticket as the name that is on your passport.  We went to St Lucia for our honeymoon and not once did I ever have to show my drivers license...only my passport.

i agree with Tracy. Your name on the airline ticket must match your passport. I have not gotten a new passport yet b/c I am going on my hm in january and my mother booked my airline ticket in my maiden name. We called the airline and they said my id's name must match the name on my airline ticket. I do not plan to show my DL or think I will need to show my DL at all at the airport.
