Invitations

Any suggestions for local invitation companies?  I want to be able to see an invitiation in person before I order it, so I figured I would try local companies first.  TIA

Erin--Check out Rebecca Simeone Designs.  She's on Delaware Today's Deal of the Day a lot (kind of like Groupon) and she does graphic design work.  She's pretty talented.  We looked into using her, but ended up using a friend of the family instead.
Paprika: I like it when you burp in my ear. It really turns me on.

i had my appt at apropos yesterday...there seemed to be a scheduling mix up but both of us that showed up were taken care of. The lady was really nice and seemed to understand what i was looking for. they have a bunch of very large books for you to look through. i didn't find anything that really jumped out at me, but i did get a better idea of what i want. i wanted to do them myself in the first place and i think that is what i'm going to do. i'm really picky. but they had lovely invitations. i did think that most of them were a bit pricey and i just didn't want to spend that much on the invites.

Thank you so much for the info after your meeting.  I keep seeing how everyone is going to DIY, which sounds like a great idea, but I have been much better and mailing checks this whole time lol....I just don't know if I have the patience to do it.  But I guess I better get on the ball, since they go out in 3 months!

We got ours from the David's Bridal invitation website. They will send you invitation samples for free so you can see it before you buy. It only allows you to put in 5 per order but you can place more than one order. No charge for shipping either.

Like EI said, I used Apropos, and we were very very happy.  The thing that we liked most about them is that when you walk in and tell them what your price range is, they will work hard to honor that price range and give you a good product.  We also loved the fact that they really understood customization, and could do it to so many of their invites.

We went with a William Arthur design.  Ours was nothing but the basic white invite, thicker cardstock; we did the thermography (the raised ink), but you could do flat ink to save money.  We did them because we were then able to:
    -customize the ink color,
-customize the font  (we had two different fonts, you can have as many as you want
-customize the font size (we had three different font sizes)
-customize all the stuff for the RSVP envelope and the outer invite envelope
-the border around the invite (you can customize the color of that too)
-the monogram (both on the invite, the RSVP envelope, and the invitation envelope)
-customize the inner envelope liner (they have something like 500 different ones you can choose from)

All the customizations were free; we were able to do away with the reception card because we put "reception immediately following, Executive Banquet" on the actual invite, and then included a hotel/direction card that we printed ourselves (we matched the font color and it looked fine, like it belonged) to save money.

Because we went with the plain white invite, but could customize it ourselves, it turned out a lot cheaper than you would think (I can't remember off the top of my head, but I want to say definitely less than $500, and more like $300).  The other thing that we really liked but didn't go with was any of the pocketfold invites, you could order just the invite without the pocketfold, and that cut way down on cost.

I would recommend at least making an appointment.  Know your price range.  Check out Checkerboard and William Arthur; stay away from Crane (too expensive).  I am so-so on carlson craft (some think it's good, I thought they were flimsy, but that's because I wanted a thicker invite overall).

Pictures in my bio of the invite and how it turned out, just so you can see what we customized.  Hope that helps you a bit- we were extremely pleased with them, and I have known many other brides (family, friends, and Knotties) who have been pleased with them as well.
