Home buying tax credit extended

I checked briefly and didn't see this had been brought up yet - apparently they extended the credit through April 2010 and new home buyers still get the $8000, but now if you have lived in your home at least 5 years you can get a $6500 credit on a new home.Thank goodness because our lease is up in March, and now that current home owners can get a credit as well they might be more willing to sell their homes - which will give me more options to choose from.

 • When I heard this I did a little jig. Very good news.

 • Maybe they will extend it again til Dec 2010... for me.

 • I am SO happy about this. FI and I were just discussing it last night. If all goes according to plan, my father is going to let us develop on a small portion of his land, so we are going to put a house there next year. :)

 • So it was passed? Awesome! This gives us hope!
 • Yep, they voted yesterday and it was almost unanimous.

 • That's great!I heard a report on NPR a few weeks ago that said that they have practically no rules to enforce this, so many people are applying for it even if they don't technically qualify. It amazes me that they would come up with this and not regulate it!!

 • Hell yeah!Salt, where is the land you'd be building on?
 • Salt, where is the land you'd be building on? Lutherville, MD. Not far from where we are now. But it's a REALLY good area and if he gives us the ok we are going to put a modular home on it (FI has been obsessively looking at all the options for a rancher the past couple days). We would NEVER be able to afford something in that area so it's pretty exciting to think that it might be a possibility.

 • Salt, that's exactly where I want to live - really anywhere along that stretch of York road between Hunt Valley and Towson.

 • PS. My dad has a crap ton of land and he rents a huge portion of it to a farmer right now. The guy just uses it to like grow hay or something. So we figure we can pay him for just a portion of that and farmer can keep doing what he's doing with the rest of it. He seems really open to the idea so we have all our fingers and toes crossed that it will work out.

 • Nice! That is a nice area :) I'm jealous.

 •  Easy Fuji San access and all that. :)Exactly!  If I move up there then we can have weekly date nights.

 • I hope the extension goes through.  I'm trying to sell my house, and this might be enough of a perk to help the sale.

 • This would make my freaking Christmas. Even if we get this house we would miss the November 30th deadline by about 5 days. Yay!!!8000 bucks would take of almost all of our debt, plus get us some needed appliances.
