I'm assuming this is a party where people bring only food/kitchen items?

I'm not at all a fan of "themed" showers, where the guests are essentially told what items to bring as gifts. To me, they fall along the same line as Passion Parties or Pampered Chef showers where guests are often pressured into purchasing items.

I feel like the closest one should get to telling guests what gifts to purchase is a registry, to guide people in their gift selection. If guests choose to use a registry, fabulous. If not, that's their choice. Otherwise, telling people what gifts to bring seems very rude to me.

I don't mind theme parties. Sometimes there's just so much on the registry it's hard to know what to buy. And people don't have to participate in the theme if they don't want to. I wouldn't equate them with Pampered Chef parties at all, because you actually purchase items at the those parties and the host gets freebies, which is the problem I have with them (the host wants incentives and it should be about the bride).

I think a pantry party sounds interesing, although I have never heard of one before now.
