Just curious?

LVB post about her FI not charging his phone and he didn't know his father's phone number by heart in order to call and ask for some assistance with his car got me thinking?a) Do you have your FIL/IL's numbers in YOUR phonebook/phone?b) Do you own an 'old school' address book?  You know the one that you have write down all the information. c) Do you know your parent's phones numbers by heart?here are my answers:a)  yes we both have our IL's numbers on our phones.  Not that we call them often and they all know both of ours.b) yes.  I've lost too many phones not to have papeback up on phone numbersc) nope.  My parent's have moved so much I just can't keep up with their phone numbers.  I barely know their area code (317 currently).  I do know my sister's phone number by heart.  I also know my aunt's, she has had the same phone number for 50+ years.MIL has had the same phone number for 30 years. So yes DH knows that number, as it was his at one point also.

  • a) Do you have your FIL/IL's numbers in YOUR phonebook/phone? No. I should. He's got my parent's numbers, but I don't have his.b) Do you own an 'old school' address book?  NopeYou know the one that you have write down all the information. c) Do you know your parent's phones numbers by heart?Yes.
  • a) Do you have your FIL/IL's numbers in YOUR phonebook/phone? Yep! They call a lot, so I like to see that it is them that is calling. b) Do you own an 'old school' address book? You know the one that you have write down all the information. Haha nope. I probably should though. c) Do you know your parent's phones numbers by heart? I sure do! My mom's cell phone # is like one of my life lines, haha.
  • a) Yep, I have their house and cell phone numbers (but just his parents, not BIL)b) Yep, I use it to keep track of mailing addressesc) I know my parents, grandparents, sister and two of my best friends numbers by heart.

  • a. I have MIL's number, SIL's numbers, but not FIL. Maybe I should get that. J has all of mine.b. I own one but don't use it much. I have all the addresses stored in an excel file.c. My mom's yes, my dad's no.
  • a) I've got FMIL, both FBILs, one FBIL's GF, and the main house line for their home, but no FFIL. FMIL and I don't necessarily talk on a regular basis, but we don't feel weird about calling each other for things and we've talked on the phone for up to a half hour sometimes.b) No old-fashioned phone book for me. And I've never lost a phone. I have kind of an emotional relationship with my phone given it's my lifeline to FI so I have it in my sight pretty much at all times.c) My parents, yes, but they've had the same landline before I was born. The only other number I have memorized is FI's.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • A.  YesB.  Yes, and I have since I was about 10.  That's when I got my first address book as a birthday gift from someone.C.  Yes.  I have a way with numbers, so if I dial a phone number more than 3 or 4 times I have it memorized.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • 1) Yes, I have my MsIL's home number and cell number in my phone, though I know their home number by heart.2) Yes, though it isn't particularly up to date.3) Yes, home number and both cell phones. I also know my sister's number in Switzerland, remember my aut's phone number when she lived in Manhattan back in the mid 1980's, and the phone number of the family for whom I was an au pair in Cornwall back in the summer of 1981. Yes, I am a freak.
  • a) Yes, I do. But I don't actually know the numbers. I just go to "contacts" and find their names. b) No, everything's in my phone. c) Yep. She's still in the same house I lived in as a teenager. I also know my grandma's number by heart, and my brother's cell, but not my dad's because he just recently left Doucheville. Noodle needed to dial my number once for an emergency where he didn't have his pone, and he couldn't remember any of my numbers. He said all he could think was "1" and "2" because those are my speed dial numbers in his phone for cell and work. I made him memorize them when he got home.

  • Pre-cell phones I was really good with phone numbers.  I always knew my parent's number when they lived in Japan and a few other places.  I always remembered the number after the second time I dialed it.Since I started using my cell phone exclusively (no landline) I just hit speed dial or go to contracts.  So basicially any number I knew pre-cell phone I still remember, after cell phone I do not.I also do not have a work phone, so I really do not dial numbers very often.

  • a) No. I should though. I do have FBIL and his GF's numbers, plus they live with us. b)My friend just bought me one in May. c) My parents have lived in their house since I was in HS so I know that number, I do not know cell numbers. I also only call them when I am in the US and staying with them, we audio talk via AIM when I am in London.
  • Lynda I agree with your pre cell number recall, I also do not have a land line, I have an intra-school phone in my classroom, but I hardly ever dial outside lines. In fact I get confused every time I do, because you use the area code when dialing from a cell, but you do not use the land line area code when calling from a landline within the same area code.
  • a) yesb) noc) yesBut, I actually don't know DH's phone number by heart. He's always been on speed dial and I suck with numbers. I only know my parents' because I had to learn them when I was younger before I had a phone.
  • He's always been on speed dial and I suck with numbers.Hehe - the math teach sucks at numbers.

  • No, but I have FSIL's phone number because her cell phone used to be FI's cell phone before he moved. No, but my cell phone carrier is Verizon, so I have all my numbers backed up that way and can look them up in m account dashboard online.No. If I think hard enough, maybe my mom's. Both my parents have cells and my dad has a landline at his house for work (home office), but neither live in the house I grew up in, so no.

  • a) Do you have your FIL/IL's numbers in YOUR phonebook/phone? yes b) Do you own an 'old school' address book? You know the one that you have write down all the information. Yup. I even have a new one that I bought recently since the old one is so beat up. It will be still be "my" book, but some of DH's key people will be in there too. I also have the numbers of most of his good friends in my cell, just in case. c) Do you know your parent's phones numbers by heart? Yes. I don't actually have anyone on speed dial at home and I use my home phone a lot more than my cell. My parents, however, don't know mine anymore since they always use speed dial. About a year ago, my sister and I insisted that my parents also write down our phone numbers and always keep them with them, in addition to having it in their cell phones. In case of emergency -- if they're at the hospital or some other dire situation -- they need to be able to access our numbers in multiple ways.
  • The numbers I know best are the ones from when I was a kid. I still know my grandmother's phone number -- which she had my whole life -- even though she's been dead for 15 years. And, ironically, even though I don't know most of my friends' numbers by heart anymore, I still the know the phone numbers of the parents of some of my friends -- those who still in the house where my friends grew up.
  • ha! I suck at memorizing numbers :D
