WWYD RE: ugly cake

So I wasnt exactly in love with my cake. I was very disappointed in how childish the job looked. The top tier was amazing and then it looks like they ran out of time and just threw some "scroll" work on the bottom three tiers. It didnt look anything like it should have. I have contacted the baker several times (left two messages) I have now reached out to them via email. I just want them to know how disappointing the service was and to maybe get some reason for the issue. Maybe the main baker got sick. whatever. Now im starting to get really upset and dont know how to proceed. Someone suggested that I should get a partial refund or a free cake for some other event. What would you do?I will say the flavor of the cake was fantastic. Thanks girls!

I'm guessing you  haven't heard back from any of your messages or e-mail?  If their business is listed on Wedding Wire, one thing I would do is go give an honest review of them over there - I know a lot of vendors check their reviews through that site and if they find out that they are getting bad press as a result of their work, they may be more willing to come to some kind of resolution with you.

I wasn't very satisfied with my cake, but I never contacted the bakery because I wasn't very specific with how I wanted it decorated during our meeting.  Now I know I should just speak my mind, but whatev...The one thing that was messed up that I made a point about was my hair.  The girl that did it did a craptastic job, and the curls started to fall out before my wedding even began (and my hair holds curl like woah, so I don't even know how she managed that).  I found out the salon owner's name, wrote her a letter and included pictures of the inspiration I gave the stylist, what my hair looked like when she was done (not even close to the inspiration), what my hair looked like at the ceremony and at the end of the night (it looked like I had gone thru a rain storm).  She gave me 2 free haircuts, which I gave to my mom.  I'm still so upset about it, there's no way I'd ever go back to that salon.

I think your approach is that you want to have a conversation with them before you give reviews to other brides...you should say what you like as well as what you didn't...It would be nice if they offered you something

I agree with PPs.  I do believe that you should talk to them, any way possible.  Keep calling and sending emails.  Be annoying...not rude, but pester them.  I think that you should have a conversation with them and let them explain whatever happened, before going to wedding wire.  I agree with Tree that wedding wire is a great place to post reviews and a lot of vendors check out what their clients have to say about them.  I've already had two vendors send me emails thanking me for good reviews.  Hopefully, if you keep following up with your baker, they'll return the phone call or email.  I'd give them another week or so.

I felt like that about the decoration on our cake. But it was sugarbakers and it made up for it in taste. Like PP said, I should have been MORE specific with what I wanted. But it tasted wonderful.

I was very specific about what i wanted and gave them not only a photo, but the actual design (scroll work) that I wanted on the cake. I honestly think they ran out of time. I will keep calling and trying. and we'll see where it goes from there. Thanks girls! You are the best!

I'm so sorry that you didn't like your cake. I'm sure it's incredibly frustrating to know exactly what you want and not have your bendors deliver. I agree with the other girls...definitely keep calling and post something on WW. If it were me, I would go to the bakery. You don't have to go in kicking and screaming but a face to face conversation is the least that they can do for you. I think if you go to the bakery, they have no choice but to explain themselves. I would absolutely expect a partial refund. good luck!

Catch, I just looked at your bio and realized your wedding was in NC. I'm assuming the bakery is there so scratch the "go in and talk to them" suggestion! Unless of course you will be back any time soon :)

Wedding was originally supposed to be in NC ad it was moved back to MD. I have tried to change it 100 times on theknot with no luck :) but you are correct I plan on going into the bakery
