Engagement party

For those that had an engagement party...did you open the gifts in front of all the guests or did you wait and open them after the party?? My FMIL is throwing us a E-party and FI and I just wanted to make sure that is what you do. FMIL insists that it is fine to open them at the party. FYI...FI's family is jewish and I guess for their family it is customary to buy a gift off the registry for the engagement party and then give money at the wedding...so we will have a lot of our gifts from our registries..

We waited untill most of our guests had gone home and it was just our parents and bestfriends. I think it is better to wait that way you have more time to talk with everyone.

That's what I was thinking...then it's not so much like a birthday party...I can see opening them all at like a shower with all the girls...but not at a e-party...

I went to an e-party where they opened the gifts at the party, and it didn't seem odd to me. However, their wedding was one great big faux pas. lol
