talk me down (live journal warning)

Okay, I was on FB and noticed an old friend's status, and my ex-husband's comment to it makes it obvious that they visited each other this weekend. Please please please convince me that I CANNOT comment with something to the effect of, "Nice you 2 can go out and visit each other when you are over $2K in arrears in your child support payments, douchebag!"

Re: talk me down (live journal warning)

  • Don't post that comment. Really, don't post it.
  • Ummm...ummmm...ummmmm..... I won't talk you down. I would have said something. Sorry. I'm no help.

  • Can you contact him directly?  I'm with Fishy, I would have said soemthing, but not on a FB comment (though I'd be fighting with myself too!)

  • Don't do it!  No good will come of it.  Channel the energy into something productive- like calling a lawyer!

  • Don't make a facebook comment, but I definitely would say something.
  • Posting that isn't going to get you your money any faster. It'll just make him angry and embarrassed, and maybe further delay payment. Don't do it.
  • you could PM him on FB

  • I would comment the "Nice you two can go out and visit each other" and leave it at that. THEN contact him seperately and talk to him about the monies owed. Be snarky but not dumb. (And I'm not calling you dumb. It's just not smart to do/say something like that on a public networking site for all to see, if you catch my drift.)
  • Thanks, ladies. I know it won't get the girls' money any faster, but part of me wants to be petty and small and embarass him. He's not working, but that's because he quit his job, yes quit, so he's not eligible for unemployment. He's brought this on himself, but you are right, I shouldn't post that.
  • Ugh, I'd want to do that too.  I'm sorry he's a jerk :(

  • Print his facebook page with the comments, and get it to the child support enforcement agency in your county. Let THEM know it's time to enforce the order!
  • I agree with Larissa, especially if this visit would have cost a chunk of money.
  • Thanks for the advice (though I do realize it's not technically "legal advice" from you, Larissa.) He's living in Texas and I'm in Georgia, so it's a little more complex. We honestly have a pretty good relationship, despite the fact that he's currently married to my former best friend. I need to man up and email him (rather than call, so there is a written record) to find out exactly when and how he's going to fulfill his legal obligations. Thanks ladies. Between your advice and the wine, you have successfully talked me down.
  • Ditto Larissa.Though, if it's any help, I'd be fighting (and probably be losing the battle) the urge to do this as well.

  • Good luck getting your money!
  • Thanks, navy. The thing is, I don't really consider it "my" money. That goes for my girls. I guess indirectly it is "mine," since I've done everything in my power to see that they haven't gone without because of their father's actions, and I've severely cut back my little extras to make that happen.
  • It's complicated, Sara, but since the interstate laws changed several years ago, not nearly as complicated as it was when I first started practicing! Still print the page. Contact him first, if you like, and if he gives you a hard time and you *do* need to file an enforcement application, the FB page is a great way to show the court he's full of sh!t if he tries to cry poverty. $2K in arrears is WAY too much. Slacker needs to pay up.
