When is it too early to start buying Christmas presents?

Re: Christmas Presents

  • I usually start shopping in September, but the wedding has me a little distracted, so I won't be shopping until December. I also have quite a few people to buy for so it's easier for me to start looking earlier.
  • Never.  I bought a Christmas present in August.  My mom usually starts in June.

  • I just started a couple weeks ago.  FI keeps looking at me like I'm an insane person for shopping for Christmas presents in October and November.

  • It's never too early. My sister, mom, and dad all have birthdays very early in the year, so if I find something I like any time after March, I save it for Christmas. I do most of my shopping in November and December though.

  • Never. I bought a Christmas present in August. My mom usually starts in June.Just remember where you stash them! FI and I bought a Christmas present for his dad last August. Then we moved into our new home in November and somehow lost the gift by the time Christmas came around. To this day, we still have no idea where it went. D'oh!
  • Normally I start buying around Octoberish. This year we're holding off as long as we can because we don't know how much money we'll need going into house buying crap. Right now we're broke, it makes me sad :(
  • When we moved my hairbrush disappeared.  It never showed up again, even after unpacking.

  • I haven't started yet.  I normally don't until volleyball season ends, which is Halloween.  If I buy too early, people end up buying that same thing for themselves.  Our family has an unspoken rule about not buying for yourself after Halloween.

  • I've already started. I generally keep my mind open to think of gifts all year, but do most of my buying in November and early December. My brother and sister both have December birthdays, so that makes it more complicated.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • I just started.  I love buying presents so I stretch it out as long as possible.  I am a crazy Black Friday shopper so I get a lot done then... my goal is to be close to finished by the end of Thanksgiving weekend.  B thinks this is odd but he's used to it by now.
  • It's never to early. I always start late summer, early fall because I have to spread out the cost. I'm about 30-40% done, not including FI.
  • Im pretty sure I bought my first in august this year. I only have 3 people left to buy for now, just odds and ends and stocking stuffers.
  • Never too early....I say this as the one who is forever scrambling 3 days before Christmas, still ordering crap online and trying to get it rush delivered...one day I shall learn!
  • I started getting a few things this past summer.Ideally I'll start in the next two weeks.I have an aunt who is usually done by this time.
  • I started buying them the day after last Christmas.  I shop for gifts year round when I can shop for the best prices.
  • Never to early, esp if you went on a trip some where. I love getting unique hand made gifts from different places around the world. This year was Hawaii for my honeymoon and I forgot all about x-mas shopping but I am sure everyone would understand that :P What I do not buy on trip, I usually try to get on Black Friday. Love getting good deals.
  • i usually start in september/october because i ahve too many people to buy for... but were moving december 1st and want to minimize what we move with us so we have to wait and its killing me...
  • I'm starting imminently, which is late for me. I usually start in October. One thing that's got me kind of stymied is what to do about my impending niece/nephew. My sister is due December16, so the kid *might* be here in time for Chanukah and will *likely* be here in time for Christmas (she's Jewish, BIL is Protestant). So I should get something for the peanut as well as my sis & BIL, but she got a TON of stuff at the shower - necessities, clothes, toys, etc. Plus, we don't know boy or girl & won't 'til the birth, so I can't go with anything gender-specific. It's all very confusing to me. My first niece or nephew, and I don't know what to do about him/her! It's kind of got me stalled with all my shopping, and I need to get past it.
  • I have a friend that shops the day after Christmas to get good deals!  Not clothes because you never know what size you are going to be in a year... It's never too early:) but you may forget that you bought something for someone and buy them another gift:)
