Walmart?

Is it tacky to register at walmart? We may register at Macy's or something like that too just for flatware and glassware and plates (we don't want china) but walmart is our fave store and we just feel like there is nothing you can't get there. Is this okay?

Re: Walmart?

  • personaly, i wouldnt ever register there. but if thats what you want to do, then go for it! it doesnt matter what anyone else thinks, as long as you are happy with it.

  • Well, in my personal opinion I would find it tacky but not because it is an inexpensive store.  I believe that Walmart is one of the biggest downfalls of our society.  Their business practices make me sick.  So yes, if you were my friend, I would think you were tacky for registering at such a controversial business.  But not because of their prices.  As someone I don't know, I wouldn't judge you just because I know that most people aren't aware of the issues with them.  Just my 2 cents.
  • It depends on your crowd.  In rural areas where you have limited options, probably not.  If you are in a city, you have other options.  In my area, Walmart is a synonym for white trash.
  • Did you know that the Teamsters union has a boycott of Walmart? My stepdad is a UPS driver and he throws a (rather amusing) hissy fit whenever my mom shops there. I'm not making light of whatever issues Walmart and the Teamsters have, but I believe Teamsters is one of the biggest unions in America (encompassing way more people than drivers or delivery men), and there are people who take it very, very seriously. So I'd definitely register somewhere in addition to Walmart.
  • I don't agree with the corporate policies of Walmart and try and shop there the least amount that I can. Target seems to be pretty equivalent with prices in my opinion.
  • It makes me so happy to see I'm not by myself in the Walmart hatred :-)
  • Just have to say I don't hate walmart and my Fiance has been working there in addition to being a reservist and he doesn't hate it either so comments like white trash are very hurtful to me. But thank you for the comment about teamsters because my uncle is a UPS driver as well and takes teamsters very seriously so I will def take that into consideration. And my fiance hates target so we won't be doing that.

  • I think only you know you and your guests. I'm registering at walmart because i know that my side of the family shops there and some won't be able to afford the high-end gifts. That way they know they are giving us something we want and don't feel cheap or bad for buying it at wal-mart.  I also know there are wal-marts every where and my scattered family will atleast have one close to them. I personally don't like crate and barrel because its alot of expensive things that wouldn't have real value to us. We don't need a 70 dollar soup bowl. a 20 dollar one from wal-mart or target would be more than fine.I'm also registering at BBB, target, bestbuy and honeyfund. So there are plenty of options for people to choose from... but if they give whatever they want, it doesn't matter.
  • we registered at BBB and Walmart. We have guests coming from all over so they can shop at BBB easily in the bigger cities, but our wedding is in my hometown and it's very small, so we registered for my family/friends that live there. The closest BBB, or even Target for that matter, is about 40 minutes away from the city we're getting married in so we wanted to make it convenient for my friends/family that live in the small town. I also love Walmart, things are so cheap and i'm poor!
  • I agree with everyone who has stated that Wal-Mart's business practices are unacceptable. My dad has been working with unions for 20 years and has taught me a lot about workers rights and Wal-Mart does a lot of nasty things to hard working people. With that in mind I would definitely register somewhere comparable to Wal-Mart like Target because the prices are really similiar and it would avoid offending anyone who may see Wal-Mart as a "no no" retailer.
  • Being from the heart of Wal-Mart country, it's pretty much impossible to shop anywhere else.  You can find at least a Wal-Mart or Neighborhood Market in every city, and sometimes more than one.  I do have the luxury of having other options to chose from, but some of my guests are on budgets, and although Wal-Mart has some horrible business practices, shopping there does give the hard workers a paycheck.  I am going to register at Wal-Mart and at least one or two other places as well.
