Afterparty?

Hey ladies! We're planning an NYE wedding and my dad wants to have an after party since our reception technically only goes till 12:30am and we have to be filed out by 1am. His view is that it's NYE and ending the party so early is kind of wierd! I thought having an afterparty was a great idea! Last night I finally picked out my dress for it (it's a short wedding dress...more cocktail appropriate since I don't want to wear a gown to a bar or wherever!) but FI pointed out that all the bars will still close at 2am so it's probably not even worth doing and afterparty! I hadn't thought about it that way, any opinions? We were thinking of just using the hotel bar...but now I'm not so sre about the whole thing.

Unless you want to continue the party in someone's hotel room, I don't think there would be much point... last call is usually at 1:30 anyway! That said, if your dad gets a big suite and wants to invite folks to continue the celebration there, that might be fun too.  Keep in mind, though, you may be exhausted and more than ready to head off to bed with your husband! :)

Last call is usually at 130 or so on any given weekend, but most bars stay open way later on NYE, why don't you call the places you're considering and ask what their time frame is..

The bars won't be closed that early but it will be hard to get into any bar. Think about everytime you've gone out on NYE and how crowded its been. Also, even places that usually dont have a cover will have an insane expensive cover. Also, the hotel bar will be crowded with a bunch of other people celebrating NYE which is fine if you dont mind celebrating with others, but if you want more party time with your guests could be a problem. I would suggest renting out a suite and having a party there. You can decorate it with festive NYE theme and guests don't have to worry about making their way back home/to the hotel.

I'm not so concerned with crowding, I think that's half the fun. We were thinking about the hotel bar because we're being shuttled to the hotel after the reception, because we don't want our guests drinking and driving. I'm hoping perhaps the hotel will work something out with us, since we're reserving a massive amount of rooms for my massive OOT family, to maybe set up an area where our group can be. I'm not sure how many people will attend an afterparty...but I thought I remembered bars being open later on NYE. I've only ever gone out once (I was pregnant last new years, no fun!) but I thought we were out till close to 4.

I would call the hotel bar and see how late they will be open.
