10 LBS it is:-(

So I weight myself today and I am VERY sad to say I have put on 10 pounds over the last 6-8 weeks. I am an emotional eater so I have done nothing but eat crap since school has been stressing me out. I ate even more over finals week. I am feeling pretty down on myself right now and really need to get the motivation to get my butt in gear. Now instead of wanting to lose 10 lbs before the wedding I need to lose 20! GRRR!!!

  • Don't worry - you have time! It's time to detox!
Don't try to do anything drastic or rushed; just prepare a well balanced meal plan and go play. You can do it!!

By eating right I mean no elimination of any foods, getting all your food groups in your daily meals and snacks, and getting the best bang for your buck in terms of nutrients and fuel. Cutting out certain food groups will lead to other problems (and most likely binge eating). Filling your meal plan with the foods your body needs to be healthy will leave you satisfied and feeling strong. And please do not restrict; do not under eat! That will only come back to bite you in the ass (and prob a bigger one lol).

I eat dessert every night; I do eat cookies and cake and yada yada but it's in moderation. • I would love that. I love running but its getting so cold and with the snow its hard for me to go running. I am looking at buying a used treadmill or elliptical online but have not found one I liked yet. I am leaving to go visit my MOH but I will be back tomorrow and would love help with figuring out a workout plan. Thanks so much:-)

  • Awww. Npott, I'm right there with you. Just over 10lbs on top of a 10lb gain since September. So gross.

Mamameech, I'd love to be in on that workout chat. I have an on going knee injury and have no clue what to do since I'm used to beachbody.com workouts.

Ok, I have to ask, how does everyone stay interested in a treadmill? I get bored SO fast on it... Its not a dislike of running, I go running outside with my dog and love it... but the treadmill and I just don't seem to work out too well lol
  • I hate the treadmill. I LOVE running - OUTSIDE. Unfortunately our winters are nasty and there is no way I'm running in ice and snow. To stay motivated it has to be fun or at least enjoyable. Whatever form of exercise you do, don't overdo it - you'll want to give up! And mix it up; work different muscle groups each workout so that you don't feel tired. My thing during the winter months is spin class - they are one heck of a workout, low impact and so much fun!

  • What i did for the treadmill (now mind you i DONT run) ... is i put a board across the handlebars and put my computer on it. My excuse for not excersizing was that i didnt have time... yet i was spending hours online every week looking at wedding stuff... so now if I'm online, and not at work, I am on the treadmill... figure its better than nothing :)
  • I need to lose 20 pounds before the wedding, treadmills are pretty boring.... I just discovered Just dance for wii and omg.... Such a work out and hella fun!

Agreed - I would MUCH rather run outside but obviously in the winter that's pretty tough to do. When I can't run outside I use a stationary bike. Not too fond of it, but listening to good music makes it better.

  • I second spin class. In general though I don't love straight cardio. When I can afford it pilates is my absolute fav way to exercise. When I was doing pilates 2-3 times a week that was when I was the strongest and leanest in my life. FI is a strength and conditioning coach so while that doesn't make me an expert there are some things he has taught me that are important for those trying to lose weight. Aim for 1-2 pounds per week MAX. While it seems like it may take forever to get to 20lbs, every pound more than that decreases your chances of keeping it off. And let's face it, with 8-9 months left, 1-2 pounds per week is more than enough to get you to your goal before your first dress fitting. Losing in gradual, small amounts also helps with things like stretch marks and saggy skin that result in losing weight too fast. As a former stress eater (I made myself break that cycle), I purged junk out of the house before stressful times (like finals) hit. While I 100% agree mama to not restrict anything, but making junk less accessible helps you not eat it when you aren't hungry/don't really want it. If you have to have your sweets or salty food around, go for small-portion bags (like 100 calorie packs) or, to save $, buy the big bag and put smaller single-portions into ziplocs immediately when you get home from the grocery store. Doing this always helped me from eating a whole bag of pretzels and peanut butter.
  • Alright I am back home and will be around. I like the treadmill because I can read while I am jogging. I prefer to run outside but because of the ice and snow I don't get out much in the winter.

I'm not a big fan of the treadmill either, but I fight off boredom by doing interval training. There are tons of workouts online, in running books, magazines, etc. that detail different treadmill workouts. Granted I'm very new to running (I ran a mile without stopping for the first time EVER in my life last night!) so I don't stay on for too long (only 30-40 minutes most), but at least the workouts help me stave off boredom. I very much prefer running outside, but it's getting so cold and I don't have the proper clothes to stay warm out there yet :(
  • I need to loose at least 20lbs too I have been doing Jillian Michaels workout videos and they have been working out really well for me so far. They are very intense workouts and work on all areas of the body. My favorite video of hers is called No More Trouble Zones. I like doing her workout videos because you don't get bored you can do them in the privacy of your own home and you don't have to go out into the cold durning the winter months.
