Hair and Make Up Timing Question

I'm trying to get an idea on timing for hair and make up. The ceremony is at 1 pm. I'll be getting ready at a hotel that's really close to the church. I'll be needing hair and make up for myself, my mother,  future MIL and 6 bridesmaids. That seems really tight on timing to me. What time do you recommend starting the process? Do you recommend that we go to a nearby salon or have someone come to the hotel? I remember when my friend got married and had someone come to her that we barely made it on time...The wedding isn't until October 23 but I heard that hair and make up books up fast and this timing and amount of people really has me nervous. Any insights would be appreciated! Also, when do you recommend booking? Thanks!

If I were you, I'd probably go to a salon just so you can have multiple people working on your girls at the same time.  To give you an idea, our ceremony was at 2:30 pm (needed to be there no later than 2 pm and it was 5 min down the street).  We had three people doing just hair at the salon for 5 people total.  We started appts. at 8 and finished at 10:30 am.  By the time we got back from the salon (it was a little further away) it was 11 am which really didn't leave that much time for us to grab something to eat, finish getting ready (we all did our own make-up), taking a few getting ready pics, etc...  You don't want to feel rushed.

I think I'm going to be staying at a hotel very near the salon and church. Our ceremony starts at 4, but we're having pics before. For our timeline, I would like the MUA to start no later than 3 hours before we have to be anywhere. She's only one person working on all these ladies. Our wedding is 6/25 and I just booked my MUA last week. She's a friend of one of my BM's so I'm familar with her work. Page me if you want any information.

Thanks for the recommendations! I think a salon might be best too in order to have more hands on deck. Sparkette - I'm not sure how to "page" you as I'm new to the boards. I'd love to get her info to have for when I'm ready to research more. How many are in your wedding party?

My ceremony is at 1 p.m. as well.  I am having two hair stylists and one make up artist come to my condo (we're about ten minutes away from the Church).  Hair will be for 8 of us and only four of us are getting makeup done.I emailed my hair stylist and asked her opinion...she is coming around 8:30 or 9 and with an assistant.  She said we should have enough time - aiming to be done by noon.  Another stylist told me it would take about 30 minutes for each girl's hair.My makeup artist is coming at 10:00 to 12:00 p.m.I like that they are coming to my condo...I really don't want to be rushing around everywhere on the morning of (esp in the city of Chicago) and we kind of have a big bridal party (the closest salons are a cab ride).  I do recommend emailing/calling stylists now - just to get an idea...and vendors do book up fast!  Good luck :)

I would reconsider the going to the salon option.  I worked at a very popular Chicago based salon as a makeup artist for years and I will tell you it is more stress than you will need on your big day.  If you have someone come to your house or hotel the day of, it is on your pace with just YOUR people around you.  Unfortunately when you go to salons you have to deal with them running late or behind because of other people not in your wedding showing up late, or having other issues that may effect your time. I would recommend booking your hair stylist and makeup artist as soon as possible to ensure that you are getting who you want, (and when you want if you still decide to go to a salon).  Good luck! p.s.  Always, Always get trials done before hand!  and take pics!!!! :)
