dry skin

The really delicate area under my right eye has decided to be evil & dry & flaky looking for the last week or so.  I can't seem to find any moisturizer that helps.  They all make my eye water, which exacerbates the issue.  Any suggestions?

Re: dry skin

  • do you have dry skin in general? Taking vitamin E supplements can help. There are a few brands that are considered to be pretty gentle, like cetaphil, eucerin, and aveeno...what are you using?
  • I have Neutrogena, something from Aveeno, Bath & Body works, something sephora branded, and some Clinique stuff.  I just hate to go buy MORE and waste more money.  Anything specific so I know what to look for?Oh, and I wear Bare Minerals, but I don't have their cleanser/moisturizer.  I'd be open to that if it were the very thing.

  • Aquaphor speed the healing of anything on the skin.  It's also used for babies butts ;)
  • Normal to slightly dry all over.  Always a bit drier in the winter, so I usually step up to something slightly heavier after Thanksgiving.

  • CVS, Duane Reade, any drugstore has it.Dark blue and white jar, get small because it lasts forever.
  • Walgreens & CVS here.  I swear, they must auction off every street corner to one of those two, or a gas station.  They're EVERYWHERE.  I'll try Walgreens tomorrow.  Thanks!

  • My derm told me )when I was having the same problem with my eyelids) that Aquaphor is the ONLY thing that is safe to use that close to your eyes.  Plus it works.  It's heavy and greasy, so using it at night is a must.

  • I just found it on the web & I've totally seen that before, but never would have thought of it on my own.  I'll try to pick some up at lunch & give it a whirl.  FI absolutely has to have a fan on at night - I think that's contributing.  :(

  • Also make sure you're drinking plenty of water!I really, truly hate plain water.  Bottled, fountain, tap, whatever.  It needs flavor.  But, I do get plenty of liquids.  Most of it is juice/gatorade/lemonade/soda.  I'm trying to back off the soda.  I just wish water tasted better to me.

  • As long as you're staying well hydrated.  I like to put lemon in my water (seriously, we always have about 10 lemons in the fridge), and lots of ice.  It has to be COLD cold.

  • I just wanted to agree with oot! I use that all winter... I also love its sister product , Eucerin Creme for my super dry winter skin! Also if you are tearing a bunch with the fan at night try putting artificial tears in every night before bed... Dry eyes will tear a lot!

  • I put Propel packs in my water - that helps a lot (for the taste....).

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • update:  FI turned off the ceiling fan and got out a tabletop fan aimed just at him.  I *think* it might have helped my eye, but it sounded like a tornado was in the room all night.  Going to get Aquaphor at lunch & shop Amazon for a quieter fan.
