Love the betta fish idea!  You can get his groom's cake to look like the marine emblem/crest (sorry! I don't know how to refer to it) and have it be a surprise for him.  My friend had a submarine made by the Ace of Cakes guys for her Navy husband and it turned out very cute.

I think you are trying to hard. All you keep saying is you are not creative.Anything that anyone posts as "creative" won't be because obviously someone else has already thought of it.Find something you like and run with it, go buy some wedding magazines and cut out things that appeal to you and find the factor that you can bring these things together. And I agree betta fish centerpieces are tacky...if you dont want/ cant afford flowers going with something pretty and classic like candles.

What are you going to do with all the betta fish after the wedding? I don't think it would be a good idea to push them onto your guests. What about star shaped candles? You could get different sizes.

I find a lot of inspiration in Pottery Barn catalogs. I know completely off the typical wedding line, but they have a lot of star merchandise so you might get some cool ideas. Going into the holidays you won't find as much, but if you go to the store, they may have a past catalog you can look through.
