DJ meeting

Hi ladies! I'm meeting with my possible DJ tonight at our venue. Overall he seems to have a great personality so I'm looking forward to meeting him and hopefully putting down a deposit. Before booking him I want to make sure he is right for us. A DJ plays such a huge roll in a wedding, I think. What questions did you ask your DJ before booking them? What should I look out for? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! TIA

The first thing I would say is feel what kind of vibe you get. Is he easy to talk to and open to all of your ideas? Does he have suggestions of his own but will still ultimately do what you want? What we liked about our DJ is that he had lots of ideas to throw out and if we didn't like something he moved on. He didn't try to sell us or convince us of something we felt uncomfortable about. Be sure that you both feel really good and even excited about him, it really makes a difference! Also, be sure to ask if he has an assitant for the day of, you will need to feed them both. And, ask for references, if you haven't already. Our DJ has a reference/rating sheet that he sends every couple after the wedding to give him feedback and he keeps them all in a binder that he brings with him to our initial meeting. That was a big help in our decision to know how other couples felt about his work and having very recent reviews. Hope this helps and good luck!

Here are some questions we asked: 1. How long have you been DJ’ing 2. Will you have an assistant or will it just be you? 3. How early do you come to set up? 4. Will you make a site visit prior to our wedding to see the logistics of the ceremony and reception room?                 If so, how far in advance do you do that? 5. Do you have separate equipment with the same 16,000 songs, computer, lights, etc.. or are we getting whatever you have personally? 6. Do you have proof of insurance? 7. How will you provide music for the ceremony outside, the cocktail hour which is indoor outdoor, and set-up for the reception? Which one gets left out? (Logistical question) 8. Do you have a copy of a video, DVD or internet feed we can watch as an example? 9. Can you put together a mix of portions of songs/snippets for the intro? 10. Do you have suggestions for songs to play at each phase of the event? HTH!
