Thankful!

So a good friend was shot in the arm at Fort Hood last week.  She had surgery yesterday to remove the bullet fragments in her arm and repair the bone with a steel plate, and now it looks like even though she couldn't feel or more her thumb, and two other fingers were numb, she should make a full recovery.  I'm so incredibly thankful that she's going to be fully-functional again, and that she's got a strong network of friends and family to help her through the mental part of her recovery!  What are you thankful for today?

Re: Thankful!

  • I am thankful your friend is going to be ok!
  • aww, thanks, sco!  I just thought of two other, less weighty things I'm thankful for (both related to previous threads today):  none of my friends make duckfaces, and none of them post about baby poo on FB.  Yay!
  • That's great I've got nothing.  Today really sucks.
  • I am thankful your friend is going to be ok! This! What happened was and is so horrible. It's nice to hear  stories like this coming out of such a tragedy.

  • Thankful for your friend as well!I'm thankful that my 2 remaining fur-babies are healthy and well. And I'm thankful that I have you girls to talk to all day!  I swear I would go crazy if I didn't (especially because my RL friends suck all of a sudden).

  • Ha! That made me chuckle. I do have duckface FB friends. And I do have baby poo friends, too. For that, I am NOT thankful. But am thankful for alcohol to make it all go away :)
  • And I'm thankful that I have you girls to talk to all day! I swear I would go crazy if I didn't (especially because my RL friends suck all of a sudden). This! My friends are totally sucking lately.I'm thankful your friend is okay!I'm thankful for all of these yummy dessert recipes being posted. And I'm going home in two minutes!
  • That is very good news indeed, Scarlet! I am thankful my friend who was stationed at Ft. Hood was NOT hurt (and has posted himself, so I've seen him say this himself). Someone was hurt in his troop, but that person should be okay. I am thankful for our military - my uncle and all the friends I know who served, and all those here who served or have loved ones who served/are serving. I am thankful my grandmother does not have leukemia - instead, she was actually told to eat meat, candy, and a pint of ice cream every day:  she needs to gain weight badly.I am thankful for my brother and my parents, and John.

Do not mess in the affairs of dinosaurs because you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • I am thankful for:- Veteran's Day tomorrow. Not only do I have many veterans in my life who deserve to be honored, but I also get a day off of work. Hooray!- DH for putting up with my constant bitchiness lately.- My parents for being as generous and giving as they are.- My 3 cats. They always put a smile on my face when they greet me at the door each day.

  • gg - When the Ft. Hood shooting happened, I thought my friend was still on a base in California, so I first thought of the Knotties like you who are in military families.  I'm glad to know your guy is fine, and that the friend of the other pp (I forget who!) wasn't injured at Ft. Hood!  I do have duckface FB friends. And I do have baby poo friends, too. For that, I am NOT thankful. ...and this made me laugh.  :-)  Missy - If you read the DM Register, then you've likely seen the stories about my friend.  I've been reading the articles about her on the paper's website.
  • Scarlet - When I first heard of a shooting on an Army post, my heart skipped a beat. I feared that it was at the post where my brother is stationed or another post where several of DH's friends are. Thankfully, it wasn't but even so, the situation was still awful. I talked with my brother later that day and unfortunately, a good friend of his lost a friend at Ft. Hood. This soldier had arrived Wednesday at Ft. Hood to get ready for a deployment to the ME and was doing all of the processing. I can't even think about this story without becoming incredibly sad.

  • Scarlet, I don't read the DM Register, but I do look at one of the TV websites online, and I know the story you are talking about - wow. I didn't realize that is who you were talking about!! That is a wonderful story about her recovery.
