Possible Ceremony/Reception sites...Help?

This is the list I have created (so far) for possible ceremony/reception from looking through all the old threads and googling. I hate that detroit doesnt have more loft options. Originally I thought private residence but I dont konw anyone with a big enough estate!

Keep in mind 50-100 ppl, many OOT (fiance and I were long distance I live in detroit/novi ) , FALL 2012, budget of no more than 12k and I would PREFER to be able to bring in my own food. I love to feed people and desserts are a must. Think over indulgence. In my mind I thought I would find a loft space / blank canvas/ and be able to create the party of my dreams...that is slowly fading as I search online  LOL

Let me also add I would like to keep the area in Detroit, Novi, Northville,Birmingham , Royal oak, Bloomfield etc.

-Flat 151 / although I hear the space is HUGE I dont know if it can be blocked off .
-Birmingham Wine loft
-Ann Arbor art center (although I cant see many pictures of the inside yet)
- Museum of Contemporary art
-Iroqui Club
-The Whitney (only vendor to get back to me with a price list so far)

So...Please help if you can throw anything in there!
xo

Re: Possible Ceremony/Reception sites...Help?

  • The Detroit Athletic Club---You can rent a small room for that ammount of people. It's GORGEOUS--and even better, they let you go up on the roof at the end of the night to take pictures with the entire Detroit city skyline in the background. It's amazing! --If you do it on a Friday or Sat when there's a Tigers game they shoot off fireworks at night too! -The photographer I'm using for my wedding has shot weddings there and suggested it to me. She has great pics--I'm sure if you are interested in the place you can check out her pics of past weddings there. -Sarah Kossuch Photography! Good Luck!!

One other place to check out (my sister got married there) The Wyndgate in Rochester. It is gorgeous as well!! It's really pretty for pictures. Lot's of flowers, a really cool bridge, golf course, ect.

    Anyhow! Hope this helps you!!

  • And...searching now ;) thank you!
  • The Wedding Party 2012 was at the Ann Arbor Art Center this year and some of the photos from the event show what the second and third floors look like. Hope that helps a little bit!
  • As an FYI, I'm fairly certain you need to be a member or know a member to get into the DAC. I also don't know that it'd be budget friendly.

I might also suggest the Scarab Club and the lobby of the Guardian Building. Also, the Belle Isle Casino and/or Belle Isle Conservatory.

I don't know what your exact date is, but the Tplex is VERY reasonably priced and allows you to bring in your own food. If it's later in the fall it is possible your date might still be available (I know Sept. is completely booked).

For 100 ppl or less, you should be able to get the space for under $2,000 (I think it's like $1,500 for under 100). Contact Patricia Linklater to find out more. http://tplex.org/

  • I've heard alot about the tplex but I can't find any pictures online ...is there somewhere I should look ?
  • I'm a T-Plex bride too, so here are the T-Plex photo links I've gathered so far!!
  • Thank you darling !! it looks great!
  • Also, if you do end up considering a more inclusive option such as a restaurant, you should look at Zingerman's Events on Fourth and Vinology in Ann Arbor and Cliff Bell's and Angelina Bistro (just came across these pics yesterday) in Detroit. All of these locations have beautiful settings with interesting elements and delicious food.

We would have most likely gone with either Zingerman's or Vinology in Ann Arbor if our guest list had been closer to 80-100 people.
  • Well just like other threads have stated they are totally booked out...I asked had anyone cancelled today.. LOL (terrible I know ) Pat was very sweet on the phone but she told me to try back at a later date :( whomp whomp.
  • Thank you Indie! Those places are actually wonderful. My FI would die over Vinology!!! I emailed all of them ;) Lets cross our fingers for budget friendly!

<div>You're welcome :) It would be awesome if someone was able to have their wedding at any of those places! I always dreamt of having our ceremony at Vinology in the Bubble Room, so now I'm incorporating all the glass bubbles into our ceremony and reception at the T-Plex.</div><div>
</div><div>The Zingerman's staff is wonderful (they're catering our reception) and Cliff Bell's, while pricier, has a phenomenal classy interior. The Vinology event manager Joey X is really great too and their food is really good.</div><div>

Im actually starting to get excited...I just need to find a venue!!!
  • My brother is having his wedding at Vinology this July - looks like a good option for your needs!

I thought I'd point out that the Iroquois Club in Bloomfield is far from a clean slate if that's what you're going for.  Very heavy decorations, carpeting, etc.

If you can up your anty a bit, I'd suggest the Gem - we are hosting our reception at the Colony Club which is owned/operated by The Gem - they are incredible to work with.  The Colony Club is way over your budget and likely to spacious for that size - but the Gem has a few smaller options, etc.  The food is stellar - so while you wouldn't be able to bring in your own eats, there isn't anything they won't do for you!!

    Good luck!

The Gem and Vinology are on the top of my list so far. My FI is dying over vinology (hes a huge wine lover and loves that look)

Thank you for your input ;)
  • Scarab Club was mentioned above.........it has some of your requests, but there are a few "hoops" to jump through. Before going by their rental sheet, I'd make an appt if it looks like a place you might be interested in. I have found it helps to meet with people face to face, give them a budget/price point and discuss options.

    http://scarabclub.org/html/rentals.html

It's located behind the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Also, this was a link I posted a long time ago, different places in Detroit to have receptions:

  • Oops, just thought of something else. My son graduated from Wayne State and they have a building called St Andrew's Memorial Church (not a real church). It has hardwood floors, LOTS of brick (Big bricks, LOL) and when I inquired into using it as a wedding venue before our wedding they said it was possible. I never pursued it, but here's a link to the wikipedia page.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Andrew's_Memorial_Episcopal_Church

    Another link here: http://www.detroit1701.org/St.%20Andrews.html

It's not edgy, it's a hardwood floor church, no pews, stained glass windows. It really is lovely.

Info here on "facilities to rent at Wayne State"
    http://govaffairs.wayne.edu/community/facilities.php

Heck, the welcome center can be rented on the weekends, it's cool!

  • Thank you Sue! Im reading the huffiington post now!!! Youre a doll!
