Schenectady, NY venues?

I've been searching for unique wedding venues anywhere between Albany and Lake George for quite some time now. I recently saw some wedding pictures taken somewhere on the grounds at Union College. I did some research and found that they do have event space but it seems like they only hold alumni and non profit stuff in there. Does anyone know if private weddings can be held there? I know that ceremonies can be held at the church on campus but we are not interested in that. Another venue I thought about in Schenectady is The Van Dyck. Do we know if they have space for reception there? I am totally open to other venue suggestions. I would like to steer away from the typical hotels, gold clubs, resorts, etc. Thanks in advance.

Oops. Golf club, not gold club.

We got married at Franklin Plaza in Troy. It was an old bank that was transformed into ballrooms. They left a ton of the character and charm in it. Some small rooms, the upstairs for cocktail hour is just gorgeous. Bathrooms are old teller stalls where they counted money - in the vault - and they still have the vault door. We just loved it.

I would love to get married there but from the pictures it looks wayyyy out of my price range. We are on a pretty tight budget since were probably paying for the entire wedding ourselves. We're looking to spend no more than $60ish per person (including tax & gratuity). This will need to include atleast a limited open bar. The other problem were having is we would ideally like a Saturday (but would consider Friday) evening wedding but we only have 75 guests. Most places require a minimum far above this. Grr, its so stressful. There are places that we can afford that are nice. It would include everything that we need but those places just arent "us". I want so desperately to have a unique wedding. Maybe the lottery is my answer. If it were only that easy....

Have you tried any historical homes or bed and breakfasts?  Also the Stockade Inn is not your typical hotel and has nice banquet areas.  You might inquire there.  If I come up with anythign else I'll chime in again! GL!

I am getting married in 2 weeks at The Stockade Inn...the family who owns the Stockade also own the Van Dyck. They have been so great working with me and I am so excited to have my wedding there...we are having the ceremony and dinner all at the Stockade...and then my FI and I will be sleeping there as well for the night.

Riverstone Manor is amazing and beautiful.  I know they cater to 75 people as you said and even smaller venues and may be able to work within your budget.  Take a look at their website...
