NWR: Car eaters

And I mean car eaters not like crazy nom noming aliens that are eating cars...I mean eating in the car.Like me. I eat my lunch in my car every day. Sometimes I pretend like I didn't bring my lunch even when I did just to get away from the quilting bee that is gnoshing with my coworkers. Lately though, I've noticed there's a legion of us throughout parking lots where I'm from. No matter where I park, there we are. We never make eye contact. We just eat, and nervously glance around at each other trying to decide if we're judging one another or not.Any one else a car eater? Or am I just incurably weird?

Re: NWR: Car eaters

  • I usually eat a breakfast bar in the car on the way to work, and I'll occassionally have lunch while I'm driving to some meeting or something if I don't have time, but I don't think I've ever eaten in my car if I wasn't going anywhere.Although, I do eat lunch in my office a lot with the door closed when I don't feel like being around my co-workers and don't want to go out.  I get what you are saying.
  • If I'd driven to my previous job, I would have eaten in my car to avoid the other people in my lab. Unfortunately, I had to take the bus, so I ate outside whenever possible. I just eat in my car on a long trip.
  • I also eat in my office with my door closed.. while knotting. My cashier walks out to her car at lunch and takes a nap, when the weather is nice. SHe is 62 and eats horribly unhealthy things and has no energy without her afternoon nap. I don't care what she does as long as she is back on time. When the weather is not so nice, she goes into an empty office on our hall and takes a nap in there, in the chair facing away from the door, so no one sees her.

  • There's a lady in my office that runs home to take a nap during her lunch hour. I have no idea how she does it. I would be an absolute zombie if I fell asleep in the middle of the day and had to wake up and work some more. Ugh.

  • I usually eat lunch in my car. I also take a later lunch than most people in my office (from 2-3), this is mainly to avoid talking to my co-workers (Who, for the most part, are a bunch of gossip-y biotches). I usually play video games when I'm done eating ... I have on more than one occasion taken a quick nap. It actually feels nice to do sometimes.

  • Meg, me too. 99.9% of the time I bring my DS. Work sucks. Why can't we all just play videogames all day?

  • I have. When I do the drive through but don't actually have to go anywhere, I'll sit in the car in the restaurant parking lot and eat while listening to the radio. I like it better than eating in a fast food place.
  • Retread that happens to me too.On the off-chance that I do eat in the office on my lunch break (also in the break room) and my phone starts ringing at my desk, everyone will stare at me until I answer it.One of these days I just want to take a huge bite of my sandwich and answer the phone:"Gwud afernoon *chew chew* dith it awecia."

  • Wanna hear the saddest thing? I once had a case where I was suing NJ Transit on behalf of a client, so the Attorney General's office was defending, rather than an insurance company. The AG on the case was this young attorney, maybe 26, so just a year out of law school, max. Once after a deposition we just started chatting, and I told her about being in community theater and having a boyfriend (this was a few years ago), doing photography, face painting, and a bunch of other stuff I was/am into. She asked how I had time for a life outside of work and said she was really miserable because all she did was work and go home. At 26. It made me so depressed! I felt really horrible for her. I wonder how she's doing now, now that I think about it.
