::Danieliza:: (Indianapolis question)

I have a question regarding Indianapolis...I posted it on the local board but I thought I would get your opinion.FI is looking to take employees and spouses out to dinner before Christmas.  He really would like to take them downtownm but doesn't want to break the bank.  I looked into the Ram, they have a banquet menu which is do able, but I wanted to get some other suggestions.  Even places on the west side.  It will be about 26 adults, he was thinking of a place that has a separate room or section we can all sit.Any suggestions?

Re: ::Danieliza:: (Indianapolis question)

  • Anyone else from Indy, I would love your suggestions too!
  • Oh, how I miss Indy. The Ram has awesome onion rings.

  • Fische do you remember any other places downtown?
  • Oh lots of places! I loved it there. Let's see... Palamino, PF Changs, Champps, Ruth's Chris, I think there's a Bonefish down there, St. Elmo's (which will break the bank) Rock Bottom, the Rathskeller, which is SUPER fun, but it's German food, so you'd have to be in the mood for that...

  • Now that I think of it, I think there might be a Buca downtown, too... Which would be really good for a large group of people...but I might be imagining that. It's been 5 years. :)

  • OOO! I forgot! You could try opentable.com, too. Scott and I live on there when we head to places we don't know to find cool lookin' restaurants.

  • RAM is okay, but since it's a brewery, i always picture it as a beer/burger kind of place.  cool if that's what you're going for, but there are much nicer places to go. i would avoid chains, but that's just a personal opinion.  try mass ave, there are a bunch of great places.  agio, scholar's inn, and r. bistro to name a few.

  • ooooo, or santorini's, if you're in the mood for a greek feast and belly dancers.   good place for a group, and i've never NOT had a fabulous time/meal there.

  • Oh man...what I wouldn't give for a slice of Bazbeaux's pizza about now...

  • Thanks for the suggestions.....Fische I am pretty sure we are going to Bazbeaux tonight with our friends...never been!
  • Maggiano's is always great for a big group because it's family style, and the food is awesome.  It's about $20 a person though.  I'm not sure what his budget is.  It's up on the north side though.We all go to the Rathskellar downtown for our work Christmas thing, but we go for a late lunch rather than dinner.  They have a couple different rooms where they could put you all together.  The ambiance there is really cool and the food is always great.  It's on Mass Ave downtown.I really like Ram.  I've only been there once but I thought the food was great, and it's really big.  I hate Alcatraz so I wouldn't recommend that at all.There are some nice steakhouses downtown too, again not knowing his budget.  Harry & Izzies, St. Elmos, Mortons.  There's not a lot on the westside that isn't a typical chain restaurant, not in Speedway anyway. Avon has every chain you can think of.

  • RAM is okay, but since it's a brewery, i always picture it as a beer/burger kind of place.We have been the the RAM several times, it has great food and is more then a beer/burger place
  • Thanks Dani....I like the RAM alot too....I will have to check out Maggiano's...I think $20/person is pretty reasonable...and I told him I really don't think he needs to pay for peoples alcohol.
  • i like ram, don't get me wrong.  but it is a brewery and has bar-type food.  like rock bottom (which i also love).  not dissing it,  just saying, if you're going for a slightly dressed up type of place, ram would not be my suggestion.  however, it IS downtown, which i think would be more fun and festive than going to a chain outside of a mall that's 20+ minutes away from downtown (where maggiano's is).  maggiano's is tasty, and perhaps the family-style ordering would keep the cost low enough that you could pay for a glass of wine for people to enjoy with their food.
