New York-Hudson Valley

Affordable DJ and Caterer

Hi Ladies, I have posted on and off on this board since my engagement in 2008. FI and I have been slow to plan, but are finally starting to get things underway! We are on a very tight budget and I was hoping for some affordable DJ and caterer suggestions. We plan to get married in the Middletown, NY area of the Hudson Valley. We have a large guest list, so our main concern is getting a place large enough to accommodate everyone (check), enough food (buffet style, rather informal,) and good music. I realize I may have to pay more for the music, but I'm willing to do so because it can really make or break the party. Any feedback would be much appreciated. TIA!

For the caterer I would try "At Your Service"  My friend uses them all the time whenever she has parties.  I don't know about price or anything.  Her name is Robin- 845-628-1591.as for DJ, I recommend Jimmy Dee- they are from Westchester so I don't know if they travel to Middletown, but it's worth asking.  Other girls on here have also mentioned the dj company and don't stop the music.  hope that helps!good luck!

I met Tom Destry at a bridal show.  He is out of Walkill (hamlet) in NY.  His prices were really reasonable.  He seemed really cool but I haven't seen him at a wedding so I don't know for sure.  However some one else might know!

I'm using Jimmy Dee for my wedding in Washingtonville - so yes, they do travel up to the area.  Try looking at Fountains at the Wallkill Golf Club or The Eagles Nest in Bloomingburg.  Fountains was one of our top contenders - the room is big but simple so you can transform it however you'd like and there's a big beautiful window overlooking the golf course.  There's a big deck out back too and FI really liked the look of the bar there.  Eagles Nest is a slightly older facility, but if you can picture it with decorations it could be really pretty (windows around the whole room).  There's a big deck off the back and there are GORGEOUS views looking down the mountain.  It would be really spectacular for a Fall wedding.  My Mom went to a wedding there and said the food was good.  Both sites are run by the same caterer - the guy was really nice and I believe some of the options were under $100 (maybe $85?), which was hard to come by.  Good luck!

We looked into Jimmy Dee, but they were very expensive. We were on a tight budget as well and ended up going with "The DJ Company". I would check them out. A lot of knotties have booked with them recently. I highly recommend them!

I just got married at Dutchess Manor (http://dutchessmanor.com/) in Beacon. They did a fantastic job working with us and the food was great. My cousin said she never finishes dinner at weddings and she ate the whole thing at our wedding. We used The DJ Solution for our DJ. They were so great to work with as well. We got lots of compliments that the music wasn't too loud which sometimes happens. I didn't think they were too expensive. Here's their website http://www.thedjsolution.com/.

Not sure what your definition of "affordable" is. We just got married and used Spinning with Style and he was WONDERFUL and very reasonable!

If you haven't already done so check out Anthony's Pier 9. Not too far from Middletown and they are running a great special right now.

We used The DJ Company for our wedding last month.  They were incredible!  Very accomodating, priced appropriately and with rave reviews from all of our guests. I also checked out Jimmy Dee, but they were out of our price range and didn't what we were looking for. Good Luck!

We just hired the dj company.  we met with them because of reviews on this board and ended up booking their premium package with a couple of extra goodies (like ambient lighting) and we found it to be very affordable. We also met with Spinning with Style (DJ Bri), Don't Stop the Music & Big Apple Entertainment; but based on price, accomodation and comfort, we liked the dj company the best.As far as reception sites, I've been to The View for my friends wedding and the food was delic and the place was very nice.  Don't know much about the others mentioned.

I have been looking into Bill Beale and the DJ company.. does anyone have more info on exact pricing for the DJ company? They sent me a price range, but did not put a price to any specific package. If you've used the DJ company, how many DJ choices are there, and who do you recommend? Thanks!

We paid cash and ended up paying $1,100 which included a DJ and MC for 5.5 hours (cocktail hour and reception), and basic lighting. I'm not sure how many DJ's there are to choose from. We had Ryan, who is the owner, and he was great. I totally can't remember our MC's name which I feel so bad about because he was awesome!! We just went with Ryan's recommendation on him because we lived out of town and couldn't come back to meet with MC's. If you are interested, I'm sure Ryan can look back at our wedding on July 11, 2009 and tell you who we had. HTH!

Amy,I am between the DJ Company and one much more expensive company and the only thing stopping me from deciding is that the Basic Lighting package (which was described to me as only two lights that bounce to the beat of the music) seems like it might not be enough. My wedding is small, only 50 people invited, and is in a fairly small room as well. Given you had a much larger number of guests, I was wondering how the basic lighting worked out for you? Would you recommend it?Thanks so much,Angelmarie

Honestly, I didn't even pay attention to the lights. But looking back at the pictures, they seemed to be more than enough. For a wedding of your size, I wouldn't be too concerned..
