Stock's Bakery

Hi Ladies - I was wondering if anyone has gotten their cake from Stock's Bakery. My reception is at Rosewood Caterers and they offer a cake in the package from either Stock's or Holmesburg Bakery. The Stock's cakes had a ton of piping and flowers on them, some even had plastic bells. Holmesburg was a bit more modern and simple - that's more the look I'm going for. I love the taste of Stock's cake but the woman at the reception site said they do not change the style of their cakes. So basically I can't get a simple more modern cake from Stock's. Has anyone gotten a Stock's wedding cake? Is the woman at the caterer blowing smoke or is it true they they only do one style of cake? Let me know please. Thanks! Alison

    It is fantasic!  I love their cakes.  My friend had Stocks for her wedding it was fab.  I honestly don't remember what it look like though.That sounds pretty dumb to me, I would call Stocks directly and ask what they offer.  Or go in and ask to see pictures of their wedding cakes.I googled and it seems they do not have a web site and the only picture I could find of a wedding cake was from 1977.

    Yes! That's the cake pictures that they were showing me at the caterer. I was planning on stopping in there to talk to someone or at least call but I was just wondering if anyone in the Philadelphia area has personally had one of their cakes. They are so delicious, I just hope they can break from the 1977 mold and make something more modern!

    Your caterer is pretty much right. Their cakes are kind of old fashioned looking. But, it is stocks cake - if you want it, it might be worth sacrificing fondant and trends.

    Stock's cakes taste FABULOUS, but their designs are very outdated. They are not willing to change their designs, they like to stick to what they know and plastic bells are just their style. If you were not happy with the Stock's cake that you saw, I would receommend going with Holmesburg Bakery.

    jess - me either. its not that i dont like it, i just dont get the obsession. maybe b/c i live so close and we always had it around when i was younger.

    Stocks makes the best pound cake w buttercream frosting. Mmm.. Yummy.

    I grew up around the corner from Stock's. So I personally can take it or leave it. But everyone who doesn't eat it too often absolutely loves it.

    The cake is the same. I would def. go with Stocks. You can have your florist put fresh flowers on the cake or you can ask rosewood to put the ribbon around it for you with your cake topper!

    I was considering Stock's too, but I wanted an idea of whet their cakes looked like. I called them to ask if they could email me some photos and they were really not into it. They finally agreed but never actually did it. I don't want to take any chances so I am going to go with a different place that focuses on their designs.
