Wedding dress shopping this weekend...

I'm going to David's Bridal in Glen Burnie this weekend to try on dresses for the first time. I'm a little nervous but basically just  really excited. I also want to check out I DO I DO's consignment dresses. I'm on a tight budget and I'm hoping to get a dress and necessary alterations under $500. Any advice from those of you who've been there? How do I get through this with the right choice and without pissing of my mom and sister/moh? lol.

You can definately stay within that price range at David's...especially if they're having one of their sales (which they do quite frequently). Advice...well, all I can say is that it is YOUR dress and you have to wear it, take their advice into consideration, but do not buy something just because they like it the best or they thought you would wear something like that, just go with your gut. Even if they disagree during the trying on process, you'll be shining in it on the day-of and they will realize it was the right one! GL and have fun! Don't forget to take a camera with you!

oh, and bring a strapless bra wear some full coverage undies if that's not what you normally do...you may need help putting the dresses on and my mom kept complaining she was tired of seeing my butt in my thongs, lol.

The David's in Glen Burnie is really good. I had already bought my dress from another shop but my mother, sister and niece got their dresses for my wedding there.  My next door neighbor got her dress from one of David's $99 dress sales. Ask for Jeff, he was great. To make sure you get what you want, do your homework.  Look at dresses in magazines and online to see the different styles available and what you think will look best for your shape. I agree with pp, wear good supportive under garments. The dress you choose should be the one that takes your breath away and makes everything else you try on, pale in comparison.  Good luck and have fun!

I got my dress from David's and the main thing I can advise is patience, especially on a weekend. Your consultant will likely be working with at least one other bride at the same time as you. I'd also echo someone else's advice, know which dresses you like! When the consultant was picking dresses for me, I recognized the dress that ended up being the one and I made a bee line for it!Good luck!

Is there anyway you would be able to go on a weeknight??  I had a horrid experience at the David's in GB (though I know there are ladies on here who had the opposite).  If you're lucky enough to snag a consultant on the weekend they're usually really rude and really pushy.  When I went dress shopping I went elsewhere but went as soon as the store opened and that seemed to be the best move.  I would imagine a place like David's gets a lot more traffic as the day progresses so getting there early, you might avoid the rush.Ditto the ladies who said full coverage undies.  A nice strapless bra or one where you can easily move the straps (I personally didn't feel comfortable putting on a bra that had been passed around the store). And the best advice I can give you no matter where you buy your dress is don't be upset if you don't have a moment where your mom starts weeping and the heavens open up and light shines on you.  Dress shopping is different for everyone so even if you really love a dress don't feel like you need to pass on it because you didn't have "the moment".

I would recommend a weeknight as well but if you have an appointment with a good consultant you won't have a problem.  I would make an appointment and try to get Jeff or Lisa, I have worked with both of them and I liked them a lot. This is your dress, so listen to what they have to say as far as how the dress looks on you or how it lays on you. My dress wasn't the dress at first but as I looked at it more I realized it was.I do may not work in your price range because they want higher end gowns but it doesn't hurt to look.  Have fun, the best experience of all of this for me has been the dress and imagining walking down the aisle to my FI, I can't wait!

I definitely DON'T recommend I do I do. Their consignment gowns were all outrageously priced. Then, when you don't like any in your price range (they are literally all like over 1k and more like over 2k) they try to sell you one of their new gowns, which are nothing special and in the 1k range. My price range was closer to 1k and I didn't find many at all in that range there. I liked David's a lot better for inexpensive gowns!

advice - i went there for bm dresses on a Saturday and that place was a nut house so if you could schedule an appt during the week you may get better service.  We ended up just leaving.  We got there around 4 or so... maybe a little later.  It started clearing out a little so if you do go on a Saturday you may want to try later in the day.  I don't know how their morning hours are but in the afternoon and early evening it's crazy!  You should be able to find something in that price range. Good Luck! :)  Jveaux - your comment cracked me up (about the thongs).  Noone told me that when I went dress shopping and all three places that I went the sales ladies helped me get dress. I had boyshorts on and was thinking to myself "thank god I did not wear thongs!" lol. Later my mom or grandmother asked me what kind of underwear I wearing. I was just looking at them like they were crazy and then they said i hope you are not wearing thongs and making those ladies stare at your butt! lol! i guess mothers think a like. :)

I was a little nervous about taking my mom too, because her opinion does matter to me but at the end of the day its my wedding and my dress!!
