Color Conundrum...

Hi all,

Newly engaged here after a 5 1/2 year courtship!! Very happy and excited!

I'm thinking about colors I want to have and have always seen myself having a green and brown wedding, but we're leaning towards having the ceremony/reception at my house and there are two huge bright red (like, firetruck red) barns and I'm worried about it looking too Christmassy. We both love Christmas and it wouldn't be terrible, so should I go with Green and Gold instead or different colors all together?

Oh, by the way, I'm a RedHead (I don't appreciate being called a "Ginger" though...bad memories) and my fiance has brown hair. We're both pretty fairly complected.

Also, we're planning for a summer wedding and I despise pink, but my engagement ring is Rose Gold...this may be more information than you care for, but I'm still in the excited enough to blabber endlessly all day phase so I apologize!!

Thank you!

  • I don't think I would worry too much about it. At any venue, there are always going to be things that are not part of your color scheme (carpet, walls, etc), and these things do not take away from the color schemes people choose. My colors were champagne and coral. Despite all the green at my wedding, I never once thought of it as one of my wedding colors.

  • Well, you could always do black, red, white. If you 2 have a fair complexion then the red would look awesome. I love black, white, red together. Google it!!
  • First congratulation. With it being a summer wedding you could go for a lighter sade of green and not a dark green and it won't look like christmas. The color would pop great against the red of the barns if it's in any pictures. I did brown for my wedding with a medium/light green accent for things. It looked great, but we used dark brown & it was a November wedding. Not sure if dark brown would be ideal for a summer wedding unless you could find it a lighter fabric for the girls. You could do green dresses with maybe a brown sash to bring in the brown.

Personal given your venue I think I would lean towards a nice medium to light green and maybe have some pops of color for fun in the flowers like yellow, orange and yes, even red. The bright flower colors will look great again the dress and it will draw in the barn and the environment you are in for that time of year.

Good luck & have fun with planning.
