Irrational Fears

I'm bored. What's something really stupid you're afraid of?

I am terrified of finding a body. When I go hiking or find myself in places where a body could conceivably be dumped, I deliberately avoid looking too closely at the ground.

Also when I lived with my brother, if I hadn't seen him in a couple days I would yell down the stairs to see if he answered before I'd go down to talk to him.

Mirrors in the dark. My heart starts to race and I don't want to look into them. Totally irrational, but apparently quite a few people have that fear...

I'm terrified of boats, jetskis and any other type of water vehicle. I'm not scared of the vehicle per say, it's more the waves in the ocean. Being on the intercoastal scares me, let alone taking a ride into the ocean.

Also of rollercoasters and any sort of scary ride.

Falling or getting hurt somewhere and no one being able to find me or know to look for me.

It's irrational because I'm so connected to family, friends, and coworkers that a day without talking to someone would set off an alarm.

My husband claims my fears of heights is irrational, but to be fair, fall from a high spot, and pain/death ensues.

My true irrational fear was of this one set of elevators at my first RN job. I hated when the rear doors would open on the surgical floor, they had huge biohazard bins there for the OR's. I hated seeing those huge bins. I alway imagined there were amputated limbs, etc.

Oh I also fear alligators. Although I'm not sure that it's irrational. They do live in canals and lakes where I live, and you all have seen how scary even the small iguanas can be. I always worry I'll come across some creature straight out of Jurassic Park when I'm out for a walk.

    - Being bit by a brown recluse spider

    - When I volunteered at a State Park we'd always get creeped out by cars parked in weird spots.  Apparently people like to commit suicide in parks.  There was one in my 5 years there.

I have a completely irrational fear of slugs, particularly of slugs touching me.  I'll handle snails perfectly fine, but try to hand me a slug and I will run screaming.

Spiders, though I maintain they can kill you, and thus the fear is totally rational.

Mostly I'm just paranoid about everything. Again, though, the world is a dangerous place full of creeps, so I don't think I'm irrational at all.

    spiders. Any kind of spider.

Elevators freak me out. I am so scared of being trapped in one or having it plummet to the bottom and squish me.

Being trapped.  I get palpitations thinking about it. Even though I have mad love for Ryan Reynolds...I cannot go see his new movie.  It will probably cause a panic attack.

spit. hearing someone spit. Smelling spit. Spit on me. I will throw up. I have a neice who thinks its funny to lick people, and laughs and laughs when I start gagging because I can smell her spit. I'm gagging just thinking about it.

I have been in a falling elevator. The hyraulic brakes kick in within about a floor and a half and you're fine. It used to be a huge fear of mine, but that got me over it.

I'm also afraid of hospital elevators. I'm always afraid they'll wheel a dead person in with me. Now I need to start worrying about the medical waste, too.

NOLA if you go to jail I want to be present when you tell the story of HOW you managed to end up in jail.

"Ya'll know I'm a good person but this crazy you-know-what slapped her child in front of me and I blacked out, and woke up with blood on me" <<i imagine that being one of the few cases you'd endup in jail

This is not helping.  I think that I am more afraid now.

ETA - I think I'm more afraid b/c now I know that it actually happened to someone I "know."   I mean I am glad that the brakes kicked in but actually being in a falling elevator sounds horrifying. Even though you were ok, I'd be wary around elevators.  Probably not wary enough to take the stairs though.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />

Wasps.  I will shriek like a little girl and run.  Bees, no problem.  Wasps, EEEEEEK!

There was one in the house a couple of weeks ago while I was giving DD a bath.  I locked us both in the bathroom and told DH not to come and get us until it was dead and the corpse was in the outside trash can.

I can't think of any.  Spiders, but I don't run away, as long as the spider isn't NEAR me, and if it minds it's own "business" I don't care.

Um, I also like to share that I love slugs, they're so cute.  Slimy little buggers.

    Also, mscali---don't see devil.

    * falling while crossing the street and then being hit by a car

    * trees falling on the car while I'm driving during storms

    * pretty much anything else happening during a storm - the sky turns black and I immediately start to feel like it is the storm of the millenium that will kill everyone in its path

    * I also hate the mirrors in the dark thing.  And every once in a while when I have my head down in the sink washing my face I get a spooky feeling and I have to grab my town and run out of the bathroom without looking up because I'm afraid of what I will see behind my in the mirror when I raise my head up.

I'm afriad of getting on a downgoing escalator.  Those steps are so pointy, and moving, and I just know that someday I'm going to get a shoelace caught in there on the first step and be dragged down, face-first.

I'm deathly afraid of rollercoasters and most of the rides at the fair.  I won't go on  anything bigger/faster/scarier than what's at Disneyland and California Adventure.

I'm also completely irrationally afraid that one (or more) of the various estranged relatives FI and I have will somehow crash the wedding.  His mother, for one, and he joins me in that fear.  He hasn't seen her for more than ten years and has no desire to ever see her again.  I'm afraid that my aunt who I always really liked growing up but who recently became a viscious harpee will show up.  :(

    Okay, here is one:

I am afraid that I will trip and break my teeth on the cement.  And just the SOUND of the teeth breaking + tasting teeth is so skeevy.

    And the dark+mirrors thing too.
