s/o Xmas decoration poll

What colours to do use to decorate for Xmas? I stick with silver and gold, but it doesn't really "fit" with our modern furniture and decor...I'd really like to home-make some things this weekend, as Mark is going out of town with his Brothers, and I'll have lots of time on my hands. I think this post was pointless...I'm just looking for inspiration, google isn't helping me much.

Re: s/o Xmas decoration poll

• I am really liking aqua decorations.  I am also really liking aqua in general.  If I were to decorate that's what I would buy.  Aqua and silver.

• I like doing our tree in silver and red, with white lights.  It's classic.

• I use a lot of dark red/cranberry and white. I already bought a cranberry wreath for the front door this year, and I'm planning to arrange a bunch of berry branches in a plain white vase to make a festive but minimalist centerpiece.
• I have 3 trees. Yup, 3. I'm ridiculous. The one in the living room is white lights and all manner of decorations. Things from when we were kids, that we've gotten over the years individually, and together. The one in the dining room is white lights and all crystal decorations. The one in my studio will be pink (yup, the tree is tacky pink, I love it) with black and white decorations. Fortunately, no one but me will have to look at it :) I've had themes that were black/white/silver, teal and lime green, all white, red and white only...I could easily decorate a tree in every house for what I have in decorations. I really think the black and white tree was my fav though.

• I like blue and silver or red and gold.
• i second the dark cranberry and white.it looks gorgeous with modern finishings. :)i'm sad we don't get a tree this year.. there isn't any good place to put it! we did blue and silver in our old place last year.i AM however going to start my xmas baking next weekend and am pretty pumped about it. not to hijack or anything.. hehe
• Vogt, I understand. FMIL had eight trees last year. There really was one in every color!
• Mandy, I like aqua too this year - the greenier aqua though. I saw and saved a picture that I can't get to upload in photobucket that is sprigs of greenery (evergreen branches, spruce, brown twigs, etc) with a bright, large aqua ball. I have everything in my back yard, aside from the aqua ball.

• My mom decorates a tree just in Santa ornaments.  I love to see how many different Santa things she has each year.
• Opal, that's how my house was growing up. Literally a tree in every room. We're getting there now that I have a house of my own.I love Christmas decorations, and I can't pick just one theme, so each room is different.

• i remember when i was little and we were in california for xmas one year.. mom thought it was cute to put carls jr stars on the freaking tree that i had got in my kids meal.i was NOT a happy camper with that idea. tacky!
• we didn't do a tree last year because we were in Mexico. I'd love to get a pre-lit fake one, but I'm anti fake trees, lol. I just love the fresh smell. I'm sick of my gold decorations that I've had forever.

• What about mixing gold with the cranberry and white? It gives a modern spin to a classic color scheme? You could even throw in some copper decorations to offset the gold and make it more modern, "metal" tones.

• I'm a fan of multi-colored lights, multi-colored bulbs and random cutsey ornaments.  I guess we don't really do "color themes"

• Our ornaments are blue and brown. I come from one of those Stepford families that believes "the tree should match the room it's in". Sure enough, our first Christmas in the house, my mom bought us ornaments that matched the curtains/furniture. We're too lazy to change it, lol.

• Oh yes, and the tree is fake, and pre-lit with white lights.

• I'm pretty old-fashioned.  I go with traditional stuff - red and green with gold accents.  And I like Santas and especially snow men.  I don't like buckets of xmas plasticy decorations, but I like it to say Christmas. So I have a twig wreath with red jingle bells on it, a deep red metal star that we hung over the stairs, two throw pillows that look homemade - one with a santa and the other a snowman, stuff like that.  I have friends who do monocrhomatic xmas decorations, but that's not what I was raised with, and it doesn't feel very homey to me, so I don't do it.
• I have a explosion of color. Basically every color is represented in my x-mas decorations. I love color.
•
I'm a fan of multi-colored lights, multi-colored bulbs and random cutsey ornaments. I guess we don't really do "color themes"
Tide, I totally agree with you.  A friend of mine told me that she thinks multi-colored lights and random ornaments are tacky.  I was like, hey, at least they tell you a person lives here, instead of all one color lights with all one color balls which feels really unlived in.I then went one step further and revealed that I also like blinky lights around my picture window.  Take that!As you can see, I'm very opinionated when it comes to Christmas.  :)
• Carrie - I completely agree.  Only the blinky lights irritate me when they're out of sync.  I actually prefer the huge, giant outdoor bulbs that my parents used to use.  They're hard to find now though.

• I love the random decorations, with LOTS of color. We've never been the type with one color well anything. haha
• Oh, I like the blinky multi-colored lights that go in a sortof wave pattern.  The big bulbs are THE best, though.
• Sorry; I'm probably no help at all (and I'm late to this, I just realized). I go all out with color. I've been a color hoar for Christmas since I was a kid. When I was really little, we had the old-fashioned, screw-in big light bulbs that were color (think A Christmas Story), but my mom morphed those into all white when she switched them to the tiny lights. Santa always took time, though, to hang colored lights on the inside-facing side of our tree on Christmas Eve, and sometimes hung tinsel. Now, I do usually color coordinate my wrapping papers, and get three or four different patterns in complementary and coordinating colors. I hang the vintage stockings from my dad's childhood and the two stockings my grandmother had made for my brother and me, so those are all red green and white, with silver and gold. But I digress...

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
