Yay another CLH bride!  There are a few of us out here.  I am also next June 2010!  Sorry I can't be of more help for recommendations but some info below:Flowers:  I am also using Meredith - we checked out a few others on Shelly's list and she was the one FI and I liked the most and the best price.  Dancefloor:  I know Shelly doesn't recommend one but I'd like to rent one too.  Let me know what you find out from American tent.  We're using them for our chairs at the gazebo.  Band: Using a wedding band a friend of the family is in not on Shelly's list - let me know if you'd like their informationHair/Makeup:  I'm going to check out Special Event Beauty.  They are off the Cape but travel.  The Knot Boston board raves about the.Save the Dates: Dulce Press in Mashpee

Thanks for the reply erickskd. What is the date of your event? We are on the 12th. Heading up this December to sign the final contract. I would love the info on your band if you don't mind. Are you doing chair covers - i really hate the chairs at CLH...

American tent recommends 12x21 dancefloor for $481 - they sent a nice picture of the floor set up in the carriage room of the CLH.

Hi there!  We are having our reception at CLH on 8/21.  I am hoping to have the ceremony on the beach as well, fingers crossed for both of us!! Florist-I am using Meredith Fancy, she is super sweet if you haven't had the chance to meet her yet.  I am confident that she will do a good job.Officiant-We are having Nick Boas perform our ceremony.  I haven't met him in person yet, but we have had a couple emails and a phone conversation.  He can do whatever kind of ceremony you are looking for.  Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.  :)

I have met Meredith - going to go and confirm things in December. I sent Nick Boas an email yesterday - haven't received a response yet. Hopefully he is available or onto Plan B! JSteff22 - do you have ceremony musicians lined up yet?
  • edited December 2011
I recommend putting a call into Nick, he is kind of slow to reply to the emails and when I last spoke to him he said he was beginning to fill up into August.  I haven't booked a ceremony musician yet, that's next on our list.  I am having trouble finding someone.

Thanks for the hint - I just got off the phone with him and he is free. Going to meet him in person in a month.

Hmm I hadn't even though of chair covers.  I haven't been inside CLH since last December when I signed our contract so definitely something to think about.  Are you just doing white with a sash? Our band is Steve Ayotte's Online band (www.onlineband.com) There website isn't that great.... but I've been to many weddings they've performed at and they are high energy, personable and reasonably priced compared to others.  JSteff - Do you have hair or makeup yet?
  • edited December 2011
I don't have hair or makeup yet.  I was going to put a call into the Salon that is right down the street from CLH and also call that woman that is all over the board Lisa George.  Any recs would be welcomed!!

Nick Boas is great.  I met him in person.  Wonderful personality and he will do whatever you want for your ceremony.  He has enough template/ standard ceremonial stuff if you do not want to personalize it.  He does take a while to respond to emails.  GL!Jen

i'm getting married at CLH in May 2010. FLorist - Meredith Fancy - haven't met her, but booked her based on awesome reviews and pics from CLH albums Hair - Justine from Salon Justine has great reviews on here and travels at no extra charge. Makeup - Elizabeth Nightingale - also travels for no extra charge - - - these are both pre-trial, but i'm planning from houston, so i'm pretty much going to try to make it work. The make-up person with rave reviews on this site is Judy Philips, but I don't have her contact info - it's in a couple of posts on here (btw, there are posts here from brides describing how Lisa George effectively screwed them shortly before their wedding - mostly by double-booking - just be careful.) Dancefloor - not planning on it Music - doing the ipod thing for the reception. Have cellists for the ceremony - Liz Schultze is the contact. Shelly recommends them highly. THey don't use an amp and don't think they need 'em. I'm not sure if they do beach weddings, but worth checking out - they have music samples on their website. Officiant - my future father-in-law Chairs - i checked out Undercover Tent which seemed sort of disorganized - quoted me a super low rate, then when i asked for an official estimate, tacked on a delivery fee for Orleans, which made them comparable to American Tent. I went with Am Tent b/c they were upfront with their fees. Also, I know Shelly is very particular and I got the sense that Undercover wasn't keen on working with her particularities, whereas Am Tent was more than happy to accommodate. Transportation - none (we're doing the reception on the back lawn, so not needed). I love reading all your posts on these details on this link - keep it coming!

Thanks beacongal for the photos! I hadn't seen any pics of the Skaket ceremony before. I love the "aisle" through the long beach grass. Getting excited! I, too, am planning from a distance (NYC - not quite as far as Houston). While CLH was the nicest by far of the places that we saw in the Cape last summer - I had several reservations about the decor - the rug (which is why I want a dancefloor - i don't want that carpet in all of the dancing photos), the chairs (hence the chair covers) and the curtains in the dining room (I highly doubt Shelly will let me do anything about that!). I was thinking White with white sashes on the chairs. LewisC2002 - who are you going to get to put the covers on? American Tent won't put them on or off (which I think is ridiculous for $7 a chair!) and Shelly won't do them either. We will have enough to do on Saturday without having to worry about getting over to CLH to dress chairs. I wonder if Meredith Fancy would do it for a price??

I was just going to go with the basic garden chair for the ceremony, but chair covers is a great idea to cover those CLH old-teal chairs. I honestly hadn't considered that. I don't know who would do that - my FI's mom has an army of friends who will be helping us set up. Are you getting your chair covers from Am Tent? How much are they quoting you per chair cover? My FMIL had chair covers for my FSIL's wedding at the Dennis Yacht Club last year - I can ask where she got those and whether whoever delivered them also set up the covers and get back to you.

I am trying to negotiate with Am Tent regarding the covers. They charge $5 a cover plus an additional $2 for the sash. Seems a bit riduclous to me that they won't put them on the chair...In NYC all the companies that rent the covers includes installation. I remember Shelly telling me that there is only one company that does custom covers for their extra large teal chairs. I am guessing that it is Am Tent as she circled them in her book and they mention that the covers are extra large.

NavajoBride - vendors are not allowed to advertise on this message board - it violates the basic rules and tenets of this forum. hollygurian - Am tent just quoted me the same - plus there's an extra delivery fee and they said they wouldn't be able to deliver them/pick them up with the garden chairs (it's pretty ridiculous). I'm going to talk to my FMIL, but drop it if it's a dead end. I'll let you know if i find anything out.

lewisc2002@hotmail.com - thanks for the heads up. I am new to The Knot and my Fiance and I are also planning a wedding next spring. As well as being a Bride to Be I am also a Master Hairstylist and Make Up Artist recently moved from NYC to Cape Cod. I was just trying to help other Brides to Be find a professional to provide the services they require. It is a special day and I take my profession seriously. My Fiance actually wrote the original posted reply without knowing he was crossing the "boundaries". Any recommendations for caterers in the Provincetown area? That's where we are planning to have our wedding.

hey hollyguarian - my FMIL used Sitting Pretty for chair covers: http://www.sittingprettycovers.com/PriceChart.asp They do install the covers. She said that they ordered the cheapest they had and it came to around $800 for 130 chairs with the installation fee and delivery. They also will send you a sample so you can see what you're getting - sounds like a good deal, but I haven't had time to call them or check out their pricing chart. hope this helps! let me know what they say if you have a chance to call them. NavajoBride - no worries. i really appreciate your commenting back to clear things up.

I'm no help, but you guys just inspired me to make an appointment to go see CLH next weekend! Thanks.
  • edited December 2011
Hollygurian, I requested an estimate from sitting pretty for 120 chairs, and they told me that they don't service the Capt Linnell House - meaning, that we can pick up and drop off the covers ourselves (no delivery and no installation). Not sure why, but thought i would let you know.
  • edited December 2011
Thanks Lewisc2002 - where the prices the same as AmTent (minus the delivery of course)?
  • edited December 2011
the cheapest chair covers are $3.50 for a polyester poplin and includes the sash - 1/2 the price of American Tent! they have a chart thing you go through online where you pick the type of chair that you're covering - i thought CLH's were most like large banquet chairs.

LewisC - which code (BALL01, DINE01, etc) from the Sitting Pretty website do you think the large banquet chairs at CLH fall under?  After all this talk I've pretty much got it in my head that I want chair covers too... thanks a lot you guys!  <said half-sarcastically : )

  • edited December 2011
erickskd - so sorry I never wrote back - i started a new thread on chair covers with Hollygurian. It's the BALL04 chairs - installation comes to about $1.25/chair on top of the $3.50 for chair cover and sash and there's a $50 delivery/pick-up fee to CLH. Hope this helps!

Oh, and i emailed Shelly to see how many chairs she'd estimate for the carriage house and she said 65! Sounds like a lot - it'll be more than $800 for chair covers if we do it, so I have to weight the ugliness of the chairs with the cost . . . .

Lewisc2002 - We are also planning on using an IPOD for our CLH wedding in September! I was wondering if you have tried it out yet, Shelley was a little hesitant about using one but we really want to do it! i would appreciate it if you let me know how it goes in May!!!

Also does anyone know if we can use sparklers in the garden area???
