Reception Seating

Stupid question...We have our seating done but need to just put it together with the sides of the room, is there any protocol on brides/grooms side for the reception seating?Call me an idiot if you like, I need it sometimes :)

The way I did it... I put my side on the bride side, DH's side on his side.  Bride side was all odd numbered, groom side was even numbered. I know some people don't go by any rules and mix tables up.  It's really up to you! As a guest, I attended this one wedding where the B&G mixed up each individual table and it wasn't that fun personally.  Everyone eventually ended up sitting at other tables after dinner was served. You are not an idiot!

I think you're supposed to keep the grooms fam on one side and the brides on the other. My family is wacky so I plan on mixing everyone all together! Not at the individual tables, but mixing family tables around the room.

I was going to do that Sam!  I wasn't sure if there was protocol though.  I really didn't want to set it up and have pissed off guests lol.

I think mixing entire tables will be fine (i.e. table 3 with all of the groom's cousins... next to table 5 with bride's college friends).  The example I mentioned in my pp was the b&g put my table with 5 people I knew (bride's friends), then the other 5 were total strangers (groom's friends).  I know they did this on purpose (bride told me) b/c they wanted both sides to mingle.  Eh... it could have also been that the B&G went to schools that were super rivals and on the day of the wedding, there was a big game... too much trash talking I guess, haha!

LOL Sam thats funny rivals :)I am not mixing tables, we were lucky to not have to, I would have liked to mix the wp tables but theres an issue with one of the GM's FI's and I really can't put her with anyone that doesnt know her because a fight would probably break out :)My group will drink more than Dan's group so it works out good they will be on the bar side :)

You know your guests best, so if you want to make an exception for certain tables, then do it!I was kind of anal about seating.  Obviously I put VIP's closer to us.  I did not seat the WP together, I placed them at tables with people they were closer too (it's funny b/c when DH and I walked around during our CH to greet out guests, people were basically sitting at tables the way we had grouped them together for the reception). I put the people I knew who were going to dance at tables right on the dance floor.  I put the drinkers closer to the bars (and they stayed at their table all night, haha!).  I put the older folks away from the DJ, so they wouldn't be near the noise.

I did odd numbers for bride's side and even for the groom's side on different sides of the room.  I kind of panicked about it too, but then found out people do it different ways.

Ditto pp - we did my tables on one side, his on the other.  And we only picked which side b/c we wanted to seat his mom (a reverend) away from the poker table.  LOL.  :)  But I think people do what fits their guest list best...no right or wrong here.
